Pink Hearts

Back to the (Almost) Daily Selfie: Sue and I are in the pink of condition

Sha's Residence

So far so good: unless something unforeseen occurs, the residents can come out of their rooms tomorrow. Unfortunately, as of yesterday the other seniors residence in Perth has 21 patients and 8 staff confirmed. Shauna doesn't see how there could be any any cross-contamination to her residence since they have no workers who also work in the other residence. Her residents have also been quarantined for 2 weeks, so fingers crossed.

Frightening Figures Close to Home

The home in Almonte that I have spoken of is up to 16 deaths and 36 positive cases. I do not know whether the 16 deaths are part of the 36 or are in addition.

There is also a home right in our town that has been hit hard.  Twenty-nine residents and 19 staff members have tested positive, and 2 have died.

Both of these places are older facilities with older and more vulnerable occupants. In fact, the second one is already about to construct a brand new facility. But I imagine that the whole system will come under significant scrutiny post-apocalypse.

Food Pickup

After waiting for 2 weeks for our turn, we picked up a very big order yesterday. They nailed it completely. We, on the other hand, missed a few things, but they will be gathered by our helper-shopper, Tash, later today or tomorrow.

Then, I stayed up past midnight in order to grab the next spot that opened up — in 2 weeks, April 27.

Hopefully, we can keep up a regular, two-week rhythm with the grocery store from now on, and with Tash filling in on the week in between.

New Zealand has done well, but the UK and USA not so much.

Two Kilometres

Speaking of the UK, they are being pretty proactive now. Last evening, I watched a photography podcast from Ireland; they are to keep outings to a 2 km range, which is only a little more than a mile. That is for walking, but they should only drive to grocery stores, medical appointments etc. That is pretty strict, but it is a smaller and more crowded space.

Incompetence is not a strong enough word to describe the so called president here.

Thank you for your donation to the Go Fund Me for my brother in law!

I gave up trying to have food delivered there were no spots open and no way to know when new dates would come up. Dan does the limited shopping we need.

Scary times. So glad you all are staying safe.

I'm glad I had my "out-and-about" car ride last week. I don't feel right doing so this week. That's great that your order came through for you, after 2 weeks wait. So sorry to hear about the elders who you've lost to the virus. I'm taking my isolation a lot more seriously now. But I believe that everyone is susceptible to catching this, so we may be waiting till a vaccine is developed till we can intermingle again.

That's a long time to wait for groceries. I keep forgetting what day of the week it is. We can still get groceries at our local food co-op, so we are doing just fine without having to order online. I think we have contracted and survived this virus, but there's no way to know for sure, since testing isn't available around here.

I admire that New Zealand prime minister. She is a great leader.

Very glad to hear that Sha's workplace is hanging clean. Pink hearts are nothing to it.

I can go out and get food when I want, but not necessarily everything I want. Wondering if I will have to order TP online!!

Sounds like a good 2 week rhythm as you said. David prefers to go shopping at the store down the street, where there are few customers.

I think it's better to err on the side of strictness when it come to this virus.

I have my shopping down to every two weeks, so two week deliveries would be OK. On the other hand, it's the only time I get out.

Yikes, two weeks is a long wait time, but then since you got nearly everything, perhaps the wait time is not an issue. We have been stretching out our shopping trips 2 weeks, and should we need something like milk, there’s the local retail pharmacy (2) close by. Glad things are improving at Sha’s facility, but sorry to read about the other places. You and Sue do look in the pink today😉

McFamily and I have been doing every 5-6 weeks. It's a long time but we are not starving at all.

I am so glad the place your daughter works at seems to be doing so well! I wish the others were, too. The senior places get hit hard here also.

Mr. Not My Problem suddenly declared himself King Trump yesterday. He stresses me out and gives me a headache. Bleh! :( I try to find something fun to watch instead. ;)

The US is so screwed!

It's such a shame about these awful deaths.
