six degrees of refrigeration

Ever since our first meal out since the pandemic, we have had a strong notion to return. You remember the birthday breakfast on the patio, don't you? Well, perhaps not since blog posts from all sorts of people whiz by in the space of a month. It had been my birthday breakfast, and it was delicious, but we just about suffered heat strokes out there on the patio in the blazing sun.

Let me tell you that it was a wee bit different yesterday.

We had made a reservation but doubted the wisdom of such when it was only 6C/43F in the morning. This was especially the case after I had gone out to the car for some reason or another and felt how windy it was in addition to the cool temperature. But we deduced that the patio was oriented in such a way that the building would act as a windbreak.

And it did.

With no one else foolhardy enough to be out on the patio that morning, we had our choice of tables and chose the most sheltered one against the wall. It was near the little fire pit, which the server lit. I suppose it provided a bit of heat, and bundled up as we were, we were perfectly fine in that spot.

Breakfast was excellent, as was the view.

Upon settling the bill, I wished the server a good winter because as things stand, I doubt whether we would return for an inside meal under present conditions. Perhaps when we are ready to return in late spring or early summer, we will all be vaccinated and be moving about more freely.

Nice that you were able to return to that eatery and dine out despite chilly temos. The view was great and the food looked wonderful, as before. You and Sue did look warmly attired too.

It does sound chilly, but with the sunshine and the warm clothes, it looks perfect! Glad you were able to get out and about once more. :-)

Good for you all. Glad you had a delicious meal, though eggs to tend to get cold fast...so you were faster on taking the pic of Sue's fare! Yes that last one of you with double reflections is a keeper! You are right, next year our hopes can go up.

Looks like quite a nice outing.

It looks cold but nice to be out. Ontario’s numbers are up with an announcement after lunch by Ford et al. New Brunswick has an outbreak on the east coast. We live in interesting times. It’s a job to keep living these days though.

I just love this type of post with photos of you and your wife having a beautiful breakfast next to the water with the fire pit burning nearby to add warmth. How romantic. Just love it.

That view is spectacular and Sue and you look nicely bundled up. (and cradling that hot coffee) I want to know about your meals; what did each of you have? I LOVE going out to breakfast and miss it so much.

I have eaten on a patio a couple of times but I would be very reluctant to move inside. But it looks like you ate enough for a week so you won't have to make that decision in a hurry! Did the food stay hot, I am wondering?

You two look wonderful out there in the chill. What was the egg thing she got. Huge. I bet it was good too. A wonderful view too.

A good setting for a bite to eat.

You do look very happy out there in the cold. At least you're safer than being indoors. We've not eaten indoors since..... wow!..... February? It must be nice to just be out.

What a great treat! Wish we could do something like that but we are still a bit fearful of restaurants. Our second experience under a tent was a bit scary since people talking so loud. That was back in August.

What is the name of that river?

It looks like you had a lovely view to look at during your breakfast out. My husband and I have started eating out occasionally, but only outside (as you were) with plenty of distancing. I don't think we will eat inside again, anywhere, until the pandemic has run its course.

But outside is pretty good, isn't it!

It seems you had an excellent time.

Believe it or not, Marcia, it is the Mississippi River, just the the mighty one. :)

To all. Sue ate her poached egg as quickly as possible. My scramble was in a bowl, so it stayed warm enough. I didn't dawdle, though.

You are doing the right thing by staying in and away from the virus as much as you can.

It's crazy how many people are eating indoors.
I admire you for this! I have not eaten on a patio all year. It saddens me, but safety is important! Some people just don't get it!

A chilly breakfast! But what a treat and such a view. :)

Well now, if that doesn't just make me want to go cook myself up a proper breakfast instead of my usual two slices of toast! -Kate
