Shauna had a supposedly very Canadian experience when she drove into rural parts to visit her uncle. I say, supposedly, because in actual fact, we don't see moose very often.
If memory serves, I have only seen two in my life, and neither sighting occurred in Ontario. We saw a modest size cow moose fairly close to us in Cape Breton. We also came close to ending our lives by almost colliding with a huge bull moose in our car in Banff National Park, Alberta. Phew!
But Shauna saw one while travelling on a rural highway only about two hours away. She pulled off the road and took out her ever-at-the-ready, handy-dandy phone.
She soon sought cover in the forest: the moose, not Sha.
Off she goes. |
What a special sighting. We have driven that stretch quite often, and never had a sighting. My brother-in-law almost lives in the woods, but I don't think any of us has seen a moose. We did see a bear cub once, however.
Interesting. How about deer in your region?
ReplyDeletePerhaps 20 years ago, it would have been likely to see deer ONLY when in very remote, country areas. These days, we can see dozens of deer daily in the suburbs of our cities here and some of the time IN the city if is a smaller sized city.
I usually have the interesting fortune to run past deer (only a few feet or meters away) at least a dozen times each year when I am running on the trails on Summer mornings.

That's an exciting sighting! I'm a pote and I don't note.
ReplyDeleteAmazing experience! I don't see moose in Hawaii at all.
ReplyDeleteI have only seen a moose once while on the train going through the Rockies. It was so majestic.
ReplyDeleteHere in Alberta, I probably see a moose every two weeks, usually when I'm driving. They are massive. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a moose in the wild. That would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteMoose causes the most casualty in North America.
ReplyDeleteHi AC
ReplyDeleteMoose sighting are pretty common in Butte MT, during the winter they often come into town to browse on plants. A few years ago we had one female calf at a pond near a freeway, and stay there with her calf for almost a month
It's deer here in NE Ohio. No comparison except for auto damage.
ReplyDeleteMoose sightings here are common. Moose roam through my yard from time to time. Got a shock one morning when I looked out the front window and a moose was munching on my birch tree less than 10 ft away.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty neat. I knew a blogger from Alaska. For a time, he had one staying right on the trail he walked. He did not walk that trail for a while. He said that a mother moose can be pretty touchy.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a moose before.
I remember driving home from a concert in Charlottetown late at night after we first moved here. The realization we didn’t have to worry about a moose accident any more was wonderful. We limited night driving on the TCH in Newfoundland after we retired because of the danger. If you’re going to see a moose,Sha had the best experience.
ReplyDeleteI saw a moose once when camping out in a yurt in the Colorado mountains. It was huge! The moose, I mean.
ReplyDeleteI've seen just as many moose as you and I live in Iowa! Granted, both times I saw a moose I was a lot closer to Canada.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that?!?! We have seen a number of moose throughout the U.S. and Canada and are always amazed at how big they are!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one, but I haven't been to Northern Minnesota or Canada for a long time. I know they are huge.
ReplyDeleteThere have been a few moose sightings around here. I was happy we went to Algonquin Park, stayed in a motel, and got up at 5 to look for them!
ReplyDeleteThat is a special occasion! I've only seen a moose in the wild once--in Alaska. I skedaddled back to the car because moose have disagreeable and aggressive attitudes!
ReplyDeleteThat's great. There is the odd one around here; a few years ago there was one just outside Lanark Village that caused a real traffic jam of eager photographers. the only time we thought there might be such a visitor here it was because of very heavy tracks. Turned out to be a neighbour's cow.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember ever seeing a moose either in any of our travels or treks. And of course, not in Hawaii. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting!
ReplyDeleteI would trade a moose sighting for a bear cub sighting. xoxo
