After strolling through the park (yesterday's post), we headed along the trail for a little way. First, I saw a redwing blackbird up in a somewhat distant tree over the river. I was using my telephoto lens on that day, so I snapped a photo. I am, for sure, not a bird photographer, but I thought that I would try.
There are houses that back onto the trail. One house feeds the birds. There were no birds when we passed, but there was a very well-fed squirrel.
I recently showed a somewhat distant photo of a turtle in the swamp. On this day, it was close to the boardwalk. A polarizer filter would have helped me to get clearer photos, but these will have to do.
On our return to the park, we saw our first goslings of the season swimming in the pond.
I found this picture very amusing: the goose poking its head over the bank.
I like those turtle pictures! Gosling already? I have not seen any yet around here. You saw quite a few critters on this walk!
ReplyDeleteYikes. Run! That goose is giving you a look!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt always tickles me to watch a turtle moving around under water. They are so awkward and ungainly on land, but under water, they scoot along at a good pace.
That turtle looks really big but then there's nothing to compare it to. How big was it?
ReplyDeleteThe last one is saying, "What you lookin' at?"
ReplyDeleteI would frame the peeking goose! I haven't seen a turtle in decades. I'm sure they are around, I'm just not where they would be.
ReplyDelete@Marcia: It wasn't tortoise-like, but it was a decent size -- an adult for sure.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww the goose wants to know what's going on, hahaha! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLOVE that turtle. Well done1 Those squirrels! Mine seems to have a passion for the bird feeder. Someone should tell him he's a squirrel, not a bird!
ReplyDeleteAH squirrels. I gave up my bird feeder, the squirrels chased them off and actually came scratching at my patio door. It was entertaining though. Love the peeping goose.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I like the one of the goose poking its head up too. (although I am scared of geese and would keep my distance)
ReplyDeleteYou’ll be a birder eventually, AC. Well on your way!
ReplyDeleteThat turtle camouflage very well
ReplyDeleteLove the turtle. I have heard that there are goslings around but I haven't seen any yet.
ReplyDeleteJust as good with the spring things as with anything you photograph. I like the snapper - he does look grumpy. And the gooseneck is a classic.
ReplyDeleteThere is something… just so….so attractive to my mind when I see a red wing blackbird. Not sure why, but TO ME they feel almost majestic.
ReplyDeleteAre the predominant squirrels in your area all that very attractive grey? It is a very beautiful grey. Our region has probably 90% or more of the orangish-bellied squirrels.
I used to like to walk along the river that ran through my doctoral U’s campus… specifically to watch for squirrels. It was a sort of epicenter for three different color morphs…. A big population of black squirrels, a big population of orangish, and a big population of the grey variety as well. And, there were a fun array of variously mixed coat squirrels too as all three varieties were promiscuous breeders (as are most rodents) and they would mate with multiple partners of any manner of color morph regularly.

I like your geese photos particularly the goose neck!
ReplyDeleteA nice spring collection. Do get you a polarized lens. Makes underwater pictures very nice. Even carp.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing those fluorescent goslings and fantasized about having a trail out my back door. Glad you have an area like that to enjoy my friend Aloha
ReplyDeleteKeeping an goose eye on things.
ReplyDeleteI was happy about your beautiful photos... thank you very much and warm greetings to you.

The Canada Geese families have started here as well. This past week, we spotted 6 goslings and their parents out for a river swim.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing snappers!
