We were hearing about a flag raising on social media. It had already happened, but what flag would have been raised ceremoniously in June? In the pictures we had seen, the town dignitaries were there in abundance. Pipers too. What was going on?
We then learned that it was the raising of HRM's Platinum Jubilee flag. We dropped by two days later to check it out. The flags weren't showing very well at first, but then enough wind came by to unfurl them.
There are two, one on each side of the Canadian flag. This begs the question: what flags usually fly adjacent to the national flag. I suspect it is the provincial flag on one side and the town flag on the other side. I've never looked before, but I will have a gander in future.
The wind began to stir the flags fairly well.
Here's an image (not mine) that is easier to see.
We left the park and passed the museum where they were finishing up a celebratory tea on the lawn. The party was breaking up, but we stopped this red hat lady walking back to her car. She was happy to pose for Sue.
Finally, I have grabbed a few pics of the tea and celebration from local social media. Doncha just luv it?.
What cool ways to celebrate from abroad! I loved the red hat!
ReplyDeleteWe have Red Hat clubs, ladies' groups who enjoy wearing of red hats and purple dresses as the poem states. Now I'll have to find the poem... In the meantime, I must say how the tea party must have been quite pleasing with not only the Queen of Hearts but Victoria herself! I wonder if they all were at the Red Hat tea party...but no worry. Everyone was mad, mad, mad, I say!
ReplyDeleteQueen Victoria stopped by! Now, that's an occasion.
ReplyDeleteThere are red hat ladies here too. What a fun way to celebrate! It's funny how we see things all the time but don't really notice them. (the flags)
ReplyDeleteQueen Victoria is a great look alike.
ReplyDeleteNice costumes, and a great red hat!
ReplyDeleteYour queen is the best. Love the flag, too.
ReplyDeleteCanadians are a very laid back bunch. I see very little celebration for the Queen's 70 th. Over the years we've become less and less interested in the Queen.
ReplyDeleteThe re-enactors are a treat.
ReplyDeleteIf you'd known, you and Sue could have dressed up and attended too! You two are the pros at skits. How did you two meet? Drama class in high school? Or the major school play? After the current Queen had tea with Paddington Bear, I thought of your Bear Club wanting to upstage Paddington! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteWhat fun celebrations for an historical moment - it's unlikely we'll see another Platinum Jubilee achieved. The lady of the Red Hat brigade certainly was festive & what delightful costumes of those on the stairs.
ReplyDeleteI love the whole idea of the parties and the celebration. The costumes on that one are very clever and the red hat lady looked like she was having fun! The flag is a nice design. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteQuite the celebration! An event to be remembered in history. :)
ReplyDeleteYou CP peeps really do things in style!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Love the lovely ladies. But the best image, for me, is that brat of a great-grandson with his fingers in his ears, screeching, and the Queen regally ignoring the kid. Perfect.
