Puzzling it Out

It snowed on Friday morning. This is what we thought of it and the weather in general.

The high temperature was 5C/41F. Yes, I did say high. The normal high for this time or at least the average high is 17C/63F. I understand that most of the planet is hotter than usual, but the jet stream is not favouring much of North America lately. We endure ferocious winds almost every day on our little walk, and we have demurred our walk entirely on a few days.

So . .  . although one dear lady advised me that I might find a heron at the pond ~8am, I abstained. I did think about it though, and I might have gone had there been just a glimmer of sunshine. Alas, there was not.

I do have two photo from my venture on the previous day. I had stopped the car to photograph the sulky on the car that I showed in yesterdays post. Then, I noticed a shed tucked away on the other side of the road.

To move on a bit from photos, I play Sudoku on my iPad daily, or almost daily. It is very interesting and more than a little frustrating that I can't do it on some days, as was the case yesterday.

Oh, I don't mean that I forget the logic of how to play, but I simply don't/can't concentrate sufficiently on some days. I make silly errors such as putting the correct number in the wrong line and so on and so forth. It seems that my ability to track just goes a little wonky, and there's little that I can do about it.

The app lets me continue to play after I correct an error, and it is usually the only mistake that I will make. But the blunder frustrates me, and I am likely to shut the game down in exasperation.

I really think the ups and downs are at least partly explained by how long and how well I have slept on the previous night. In this case, my sleep was on the short side. So maybe I'm not totally dumb but just sleep deprived. Yeah, that must be it. Not dumb. Only sleep deprived.

  1. I hear you.
I devolved into tears because the flowers I'd ordered for my daughter hadn't arrived, even though the company said they were.
I am short-tempered and crusty. I'm sure we are all having issues.
    Take it easy!

  2. So weird that the temperature is so cold there, while here we are setting records for highs. Polar vortex in both cases, I understand. It should pass soon. :-)

  4. Good days and not so good days here too. Strange dreams in the night that make me more tired when I wake.

I know what you mean about the wind. Being on the 11th floor we are buffeted constantly. Last night rain and wind. No snow here but very cold for May.

  5. When I haven’t slept well I can’t function well either. I find I cannot concentrate to read at those times.

We are having snow today! The winds have been high with cold temperatures too. We walk the boardwalk and if there’s a window of opportunity with okay weather, seniors are out in full force. Everyone is trying to make the best of It.

  6. Brrr! Brain is dependent upon the body. I realized a few minutes ago that I'm thinking about body/brain stuff way too much. So I've set some kind of rule. Make myself think of something else. (Not the news, virus, politics, etc.) That leaves the past, pets I've owned, my sons and grandchildren, animals, nature, flowers, wind, sunshine...oh there's really no limit. So let me get to it...

  7. We do the Globe and Mail Sudoku. Believe it or not, I am getting faster at it and usually finish.
the rest of my mental state is not worth reading about.

  8. I do a daily wordscapes puzzle and I blame missteps on lack of sleep or not enough coffee. That is COLD! We have some of your degrees here since it's in the 80s right now. You can have 10-15 of those degrees!

  9. Yes. We all need to sleep well and for a long duration, too. I myself am not alert when I am sleep deprived.

  10. I like sudoku as well. I've never tried playing on line. Sounds like I should give it a try.

  11. That shed has a very recent roof. And a great split rail fence.

  12. The selfies are interesting, really cute! Our weather here is so up and down, I won't even try to explain what it's like.

I used to play Sudoku but it required lots of thought. I switched to Spider Solitaire... all I have to do ... just click, click, CLICK. No thinking involved, gives me a chance to wind-down.

Happy Mother's Day to Sue and the other mothers in your family!

  13. Your shed photo would make a good puzzle photo.

  14. Your selfie expressions perfectly describe what we thought about the rain and then furious snow flurries here on Saturday morning. Once that mess was ended, the winds kicked in and it's doubtful that Spring will return anytime soon. It's chilly and quite unseasonable now.
