1st + 51st

Our daily selfie marks a 1st — our 1st picnic of the year on a pleasant day of the May long weekend.

That our 1st picnic took place on our 51st anniversary was a bonus.

That's right; yesterday was our 51st. We were married on the long weekend 51 years ago. I assure you that we never pictured ourselves living in a town in Eastern Ontario that we had never heard of, especially during a pandemic. Now, I'm not sure that we pictured much back then, but we certainly didn't envision this.

As usual, our celebration was low key, and let me say in passing that we do celebrations and not cellies.

For almost the 51st time, for I'm sure we missed 1 or 2 years, we ordered pizza because it is tradition that began on our wedding night. Fudge is also tradition because we picked up some on the drive to our honeymoon spot in Stratford.

Fortuitously, our local fuidge shop reopened just in time for the long weekend. They played it safe with arrows and markings, as well as plexiglass at the cash, and so did I, wearing a mask for the first time. I haven't had to wear one previously because I haven't been going out other that for walks in the open air.

We also paid homage to a new emerging tradition, one that is not specifically related to our  anniversary but to every long weekend because it is on long weekends that the fudge shop also makes coconut cream pies.

.
After our picnic, Sha and the kids dropped by for a little distanced visit. It was nice to visit outside rather than in the garage.

Then it was time to finish the pizza that we started on the previous day and to watch a few more episodes of Murdoch Mysteries.

  1. Happy Anniversary. Both the fudge and the pie look scrumptious. Did the family help you eat those?
We celebrated 46 this year in March but in isolation.

Very fun activities to walk around after some time staying at home and can gather with the whole family.

  4. Very belated Happy Anniversary wishes to you both🥂🍾and glad you were able to get outdoors without masks and to social distance with family, also outside. We also celebrated an anniversary this past weekend, which will be noted in an upcoming post. I liked your tradition of pizza and fudge too!

  6. Happy Anniversary! Your traditions are great, probably because I adore pizza and like fudge too. Glad you could sit outside and enjoy seeing your family. That's the most special thing of all.

  14. Wow. That is a milestone.
Such a lovely celebration and tradition.
I haven't worn a face mask. JB bought two from a local seamstress. $10 apiece. He goes out early to shop, 7 a.m. at this point.
