I picked up a little pot of violas at the grocery store. I find them delightful, and they do speak of spring. Eventually, I grabbed a couple of macros.
I also came across another curious post in our Buy Nothing group. It leaves me with questions and causes me to shake my head, just a bit.
I also have questions about ↓ this.
While I do my best to use appropriate pronouns with much loved someone in my circle. I do find it odd that one person approached a stranger person and asked what pronouns to use. I mean I haven't yet come across a case when the appropriate pronoun to use when talking directly to someone isn't
"you."
I do note, however that the gesture was appreciated, so that is good, but I still do find it a bit odd.
Pansies do have have such happy little faces & I find that a pot at the door greets every one with a spring smile.
ReplyDeleteThat comment about the encounter is probably best filed as " never happened, trans phobe in search of an audience."
ReplyDeleteI hear you! My grandie has a non-binary best friend. I am still learning to use the correct pronouns. My daughter corrected me, as she should.
ReplyDeleteWe've little violets in the garden. Lovely to see.
The violas were lovely photo subjects and in 2 of my favorite colors as well. The ad was an unusual one and the gas station exchange was curious.
ReplyDeleteThe violas are perfect. I hate to say this but I think I'm too old to care about pronouns...
ReplyDeleteThat little anecdote? I would have thought that the woman was 'fishing'.
ReplyDeleteI love violas.
Second macro, for my taste.
ReplyDeleteOld style pronouns for my taste. I hate the lack of agreement to go to the plural.
Luckily, as you say, you is clear.
Sigh.
I like pansies but they do go everywhere! My late husband told me no more when we were finding them growing in the front yard like a weed. I work at the pronouns but they/their/them as a singular continues to confound me.
ReplyDeleteLove the pansies. I have resisted buying any so far as then they are in the way when it is time to plant other things and so I leave them to fight it out with the next batch of flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to pay attention but I'm not sure I use any pronouns when meeting someone for the first time. I just say my name is "Ed", what is yours? Then on subsequent meetings, I just go by the name they gave me. Usually I only use pronouns when referring to someone in third person.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful use of bokeh here
ReplyDeleteIf the pronouns are an issue, I hope the person would tell me what to use.
ReplyDeletePretty flowers, and hilarious anecdotes! People can be so odd. I am reminded of an ad I saw in a newspaper that covered a very rural area: "Looking for a good woman possibly to marry. Must have tractor."
ReplyDeletePronouns shmonouns, I just can't deal with it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been ask what pronoun I use. But I live in less of populate area.
ReplyDeleteFirst name is fine, with me.
Coffee is on and stay safe.
I am fine with varied pronouns, and for folks who want a pronoun that is not he or she….. I would be happy to use their preferred pronoun. However, I do think “they” is a poor choice for a singular pronoun. It creates in the mind of most folks, a discordance due to its traditional use as plural. Discordance in speaking or writing is not usually effective in communication. So, I truly WISH there would be made a new pronoun that all could agree with to use INSTEAD of “they” as a singular designated pronoun. And, sincerely, I believe a newly crafted pronoun would be more appropriate for the significance of the gender identity role.
ReplyDeleteIMO as it is currently, “they” in that context muddies communication…. whereas a new pronoun would both clarify communication, and lead to less confusion and less focus on pronouns. The folks who need this pronoun would, IMO become more integrated overall with this new pronoun.

My grandchildren tell me what pronouns any new to me person is using. As for the rest of us, we're so sold we ony know the ones we were taught in kindergarten, or earlier.
ReplyDeleteDan and I were talking about the car. I thought he had been referring to the car as a she but he thinks he's been using he. We decided it was the best pronoun to use. Never had the occasion to ask someone the pronoun they preferred.
ReplyDeleteI love pansies. They do winter over here which I find amazing.
Cheerful little faces on the violas. Asking pronouns seems as weird as asking someone What ARE you anyway?
ReplyDeleteWell, some women look like men.....
ReplyDeleteThose flower faces always get me.
ReplyDeleteAs for pronouns, I love grammar, and people.
I think will soon about pronouns.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe.
Sometimes, it is better to ask than guessing
ReplyDeleteGorgeous violas! Asking for a person's pronouns is really weird.
