Three Little Things, Installment 2

I actually did this thing yesterday.

We were about to head to exercise class, when I found myself at the locked car searching through my pockets  for the car key. I was pretty confident in limiting my search to the pockets on my right side because that is where I habitually, put my keys. I mean, like, for a lifetime of habituality.

After a little fruitless searching and beginning to think that I must have left my keys in the house, I noticed that they were already in my left hand.

I bet you weren't expecting that.

================================

We had our first snowfall of the season this week. It was so light that it almost shouldn't count.

But it does count.

We are now experiencing heavy morning frosts – heavy enough that I have to rub my eyes to determine that it isn't snow that I see on the car roofs..

We had already had light frosts earlier, but these heavy ones are what could be termed killing frosts. I am glad that we have already competed our garden cleanup.

================================

I was surprised when I went to the dentist this week for the first time in two-and-a-half years. It's a new dentist because I wanted one in town rather than having to drive into the city. While my former guy was not exactly in the heart of the CBD (Central Business District) and more on the western outskirts, the trip still required navigating the kind of traffic that I don't prefer to experience these days.

The surprise was that this new dentist is a girl . . .  er . . . lady. I couldn't tell that from her Asian name although I guess I should have in retrospect. A first name of Jing Jing does sound female, now that I think about it.

A second surprise was that she wears heels. I am not sure when I last saw a woman in heels. However, I do live a sheltered life. Perhaps if I still went to church . . .

Do folk still dress up for church? It has been a long time since I graced a pew.

The only time I see people dressed-up nowadays is when they show hockey players entering the arena before a game. They have a dress code to follow – one that is somewhat antiquated, if you ask me.

Back to the dentist and medical practitioners after my slight digression: all three of my current doctors are female. The only exception is the specialist who will do my foot surgery. However, my relationship with him will be only temporary – hopefully.

  1. I have low heels in the closet that I haven't wore in years. Your dentist may have worn them to be taller for her patients. But then maybe she was seated when she worked on you.

    We are having the killing frosts here too. Every morning this week. No snow yet thankfully. First snow last year was Dec 17th and a big one. I remember because it was two days after we moved in and on my birthday.

  2. I have dressy flats for church. I have a bad knee and I would topple over and damage myself in heels, I'm afraid. I'm not here to crush any dreams, but I generally wear blue jeans to church, with a good shirt.

    PS: One question: were you holding other things in your hands? I cannot tell you the times that I've been holding my work badge in my hand, along with my car keys, my mask, and a water bottle, and stood rooting through my work bag looking for that damn badge, only to discover I've got it in my hand.

    Really. I'm too dumb to be let loose, at times.

  3. This is fun. We've been doing all sorts of things like this.

  4. Well told, repeated often in different themes, eye glasses used to happen a lot before I had a prescription and wear them all the time now. I've also been talking to someone on the phone nowadays and say, let me find my phone and I'll look it up...duh. Sometimes I think I've left something in the car, and get all bundled up and go look, and nah, it was behind that other something in the house all along. Keep on laughing at ourselves!

  5. It's rather startling when you're looking for something and it's in your hand. Been there! Done that!

  6. My dental clinic is staffed by young gals of either Chinese or Korean heritage too. They are all great. A big improvement over the last grumpy old git who staffed the place.

  7. I haven't worn a pair of high heels or a slick of makeup since my first wedding in 1972. When I was still going to church, I did dress my best. Not all spiffed up like one might for a wedding sort of best dress, but still my best.

  8. Heels on a Dentist. I question that wisdom. I want a female doctor, got one and do not like her at all. Guess I have to go back to a male doctor.

  9. I've done the same thing with my keys. I must put them in my hand automatically and then forget. Automatic pilot is a good/bad thing. I used to wear high heels and skirts and dresses to school, but then moved to comfortable flat shoes and slacks. No one seems to dress up much these days except for very special occasions.

  10. AC, in answer to your question on my blog post, the town name is hidden at my daughter's request for privacy. This includes if I feature granddaughters in photos I blur their faces and don't mention their names or any identifying information.

  11. Oh hey. I've done things like you did with your keys. It's disconcerting, isn't it? -Kate

  13. Single digits here, but no frosts so far.

    I have had several female dentists and gp’s, but right now I’m back to men. I don’t mind either way as long as they know what they’re doing.

  14. I currently have more female than male medics. When I had same day surgery a couple of years back, the entire team, anaesthetist, surgeon, attending nurses, everyone was female. I felt so heard! They worked great as a team, mo stupid joking about sports etc among themselves. Such a good experience.

  15. I read somewhere that more college grads across the board are female these days. I'm not surprised that many go into the medical profession. I haven't seen anybody walking around in heels in person for ages! :-)

  16. I marvel at the age of the medical professionals I meet today. They need permission to be out of school by the look of them.

  17. I am SO past wearing heels.

  18. Your dentist wears heels? That IS a surprise since she must be on a feet all the time. Hmmm... I haven't seen anyone in heels around here either. Then again, I'm in Hawaii so that could be the reason.
