Sue purchased some bird seed after using up the small stash from James' funeral. She has returned to the park several times but enjoyed no luck even sighting birds, never mind enticing them for a visitation. But Sue is nothing if not persistent, and she has tried a few times. It is good for us to stretch our legs, and birds or other critters must find the provender since it has all disappeared by the subsequent visit.
Our last visit was on a typically bleak November afternoon, and I can prove it by showing this forlorn path in our little woods. ↓↓ November is, indeed the bleakest month. The landscape will actually look better when there is snow to brighten it up.
Never the less, Sue diligently fastened her PB+seed apple slices to branches,.
She looks for little sharp twigs on which to hang attach the slices.
She also leaves seeds in the crooks of larger trees.
As you can see from the first photo in this post, photo ops didn't exactly abound on that visit, but there were a few nice leaves on this little branch. Ya gotta snatch what you can at this time of year.
On the way out of the park, I spied one still colourful tree. I liked it juxtaposed with the derelict old factory on the other side of the river. I find the contrast between the splendid colour and a dingy building to be appealing for some reason.
It's not a bright, catchy photo, but the subdued tones represent that November day, and I think they convey a November mood quite well.
Has Sue considered hanging her bird concoctions in your backyard? The birds will find it.
ReplyDeleteAlligator? Really?
November light on a cloudy day is interesting too. I’ve enjoyed it recently.
ReplyDeletePatience with the birds will yield results.
Yay for Sue's persistence. I'm sure some wild critters found it, even if it wasn't birds. :-)
ReplyDeleteSome very nice photos. November's light is a challenge. How kind to leave little offerings for the creatures of the woods. I have never had any success with getting the Chickadees to hand feed. Someone suggested putting a garden glove in the tree with seed on it & then eventually move to wearing that same glove ... I may try in the spring - it is too cold now (for me) to stand outside holding seed & hoping.
ReplyDeleteThe birds will find it.
ReplyDeleteThose goodies will probably attract ants, if ant live around there. LOL. Love that yellow tree.
ReplyDeleteNovember is a hard gig to deal with however you look at it.
ReplyDeleteAlligator? Keep Sue away from the water's edge.
ReplyDeleteA Canadian alligator? Does it wear a sweater in the winter? ;) November isn't the best month at all. It hasn't brought me much pleasure so far. I love the bright tree in the dingy background.
ReplyDeleteI think it is so cute to imagine the birds finding a surprise treat…… sort of akin to driving in a town and finding a new bakery that has some specialty cupcakes and getting one!

I love that Sue is feeding the unknown birds ... it's a sure example of someone with a big heart, whether she sees them eat or just has faith that they need her.
ReplyDeleteIn some areas here chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers come to your hand for feed. Kids really like it. If Sue is persistent she may get some action.
ReplyDeleteYup,mthe last provoked a laugh!
ReplyDeleteYay, Sue! from a fellow bird feeder. ;)
ReplyDeleteIf I saw that sign I would definitely look around just to see if somebody let a pet loose.
