The Geese Are Back

The drainage pond around the corner is reemerging, and the geese are returning. The wide angle view makes the pond look bigger than it really is.

It had been frozen until very recently, but a little more ice has been melting daily. The next photo shows the ice better, and also the short video below that pans from the geese to the ice.

They are mostly geese, but there are a few ducks.

Oh ... and the robins are back too, but you'll have to take my word on that for now.

  2. Do you have any geese that hang around all winter? Butte has a few, even though there is no open water, and can get a might nippy.

  4. I saw my first robin early last week. When my grandmother lived in Florida, she would always call us when she saw the robins were on their way. They'd show up like clockwork within the next two weeks.

  5. I love the sounds of the birds. In summer at 5 a.m. outside my window is a bit much though. It's looking like spring!

  9. Signs of spring. Yeah!! No robins here yet but we got notice to remove bird feeders by the 31st because of bears. First time that I've had to do that. Never had that problem in Maryland.

  10. I saw the first geese in the city earlier this week, several of them near the Rideau River in a park.
