Takeaway

At the last minute last night, we packed up dinner and left it on the porch for Sha and the kids. We had been planning our usual family dinner here, the main course being chicken baked in a hoisin-hickory sauce, and served with rice.

Not long before they were to arrived, Sha informed us that she had been exposed to COVID at work. Although she may very well not have caught it, we all thought it better to be safe than sorry. So, we made their part a takeaway. Sha was out and about already, so she picked it up from our front porch.

Oops, takeaway is showing my predilection for British expressions. We have normally used takeout hereabouts, but I am getting so immersed in Britishisms that they are almost becoming second nature.

Speaking of things British, we are currently watching season 12 of Vera. We've seen it before, but only once and a year ago, so it is pretty well new to us. I have recalled fragments, but after wtching two episodes, it seems completely new to Sue. We are like cats who can't seem to remember that they refused to go outside 3 minutes ago because it was raining.

Back to COVID, Sha will test regularly, but she didn't want to take a chance of exposing us, especially since we still haven't had the newest booster.

And that is something that we must rectify soon, for we are almost due. We've had the flu vax though.

  1. Oh, the food is ready, I'm getting hungry.
    Reads very tasty.
In any case, you're doing it right... be careful... now in this cool weather... Corona or a cold, neither is needed.
    A hug from Viola
And yes, I'm going to go into the kitchen now and cook something nice :-)))

  3. Always best to play it safe. You & Sue have both had more than enough with health issues.

  4. Sorry about needing the precautions, but wise to do it. The dinner sounds great.

  5. Vera is so good. We too have re-watched it.

  6. Oh boy, another good series to look forward to. Food does sound yummy. Glad you're being safe! And that no longer means driving the speed limit! I was glad to be masked in church this week (though I have had my 3 shots this fall) but a guy right behind me coughed. And some kid was sneezing. No chances here please. Haven't had the 19 yet. Thankful for that!

  7. I'm back to wearing the mask if the place will be the least bit crowded.
As a knitter on various British knitting sites, I'm finding myself using some British terms, too. Sweaters with sleeves, but no buttons, are now called Jumpers (for example). My first husband was from a British Indian family, so he grew up with some odd terms, that have persisted within our family too.

  8. Yes you definitely need that Covid booster.

  9. Oh! You have not been able to get the current booster yet?!? Is it because of the other ailments you both had had to deal with, or is it because of timing, or is there a specific protocol for distribution in Canada and you have not received notification?

I think it has been ~ a month since my wife and I received our newest Covid vaccine. Same results we always have…. my wife basically has no effects, and I was wiped out for about 24 hours and then fine. 🙂

  10. Smart move! No sense being exposed, especially with the health issues you have have had recently. The chicken sounds delicious.
I have found British isms, as you aptly named it, seeping into my vocabulary as well. I watch a lot of BBC series and movies, so there's the source.

  11. Very nice of you to provide the food. We say Take Out in Hawaii. Nothing British about us.

  12. Takeout here in Washington State too. Sounds yummy and wise. You sure don't need covid in your life. Masks have returned to crowded places here too.

  13. I just had two people I know beg out of prior obligations due to accidental exposures to Covid. I've had my Covid vaccine so I told them they could continue on around me but I didn't want to speak for others that might be there. Both decided to stay home and that was probably the wisest choice.

By the way, out of all the Covid vaccines, this one was by far the worst. It laid me low the entire following day. I was chilled, had body aches and couldn't keep my eyes open. I think I napped four hours during the day and still got a solid 6 hours that night. But I will take those side effects any day over the worry of ending up hospitalized.

  14. A good friend has come down with Covid but he has had all the shots and seems to be on the mend after 6 days.
I had the new one 2 weeks ago.

  15. I think that was a wise precaution. It doesn't seem like Covid is killing people the way it did at the beginning, but it can still make us very sick and we're in a high risk group. The elderly, ugh. I've had all my shots: flu, RSV and the latest Covid. Hope they'll help get me through this winter!

  16. There is a new run of instances of Covid again. Not sure how virulent it is.

  17. In Scotland the phrase is carry-out (or cairy-oot) but that usually means booze!

  18. I love that you are a takeaway site for Sha -- and very good that no one took chances. I do the Brit expressions more than I should too -- and have even (more than once) started to spell that way, too. Season 12 of Vera is a good one. I love that series and think we may have to go back to the beginning. Did the end of Annika shock you? Sure did me. They know how to serve up a cliffhanger on that show!

  19. Home cooked take out is better anyway.

  20. I've had flue and covid vaccinations and will have the RSV next week. Quite up to date.

  21. A bit of a shock that your daughter has been exposed to covid and you are doing the right thing by isolating. I hope your daughter does not get the covid.

  22. I do hope she will have missed Covid!
We just got our six month notice on our Covid shots yesterday, but, like you, have had the flu jab. (Note British wording; it's catching) Now to find someone who HAS the new Covid vaccine. Sigh.
Re The Crown. It is interesting but OTT, if that makes sense. The 'Light' is supposed to be very well done, but it was too dark for JG's taste, so we are going to dig up 'The Queen' for a comparison check to The Crown.
Since we now have the internet back. Finally.
