Reflections were clear on the calm water, and our phones came out to capture the sights. I have photographed the stand of birches across the river more than once, including in winter, but I don't always capture nice reflections. I deliberately included the branches of a nearby tree to help frame the scene and give it depth.
Then, I noticed the tamaracks in the distance. I guess we don't walk this way very often at this time of year, for I don't recall noticing them before.
Eventually, we came upon them before we turned back.
calm, bright days like this in November are a gift.
A beautiful shot (my favorite) the last. All are really great to my mind.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to work out what a tarmarack was. (A tree?)
ReplyDeleteIs that a coffee mug you are holding in the previous post?
@Liz: It was probably tea at lunchtime. We both drink coffee in the morning and tea at noon. We often have decaf coffee at supper. You probably call tamaracks, larches. It’s not an uncommon name here either.
ReplyDeleteI am sure they were flattered you came by just to take their picture.
ReplyDeleteI like all four photos - you really scored on the reflections. But the tamarak in the distance is my fav. Composition and the yellow as your focal point.
ReplyDeleteYes, a gift to all of us. Thank you for sharing friend. Aloha!
ReplyDeleteWe have been clear and cold, until last night, when the rain moved in and the temps rose more than twenty degrees. I love the pretty reflections in the first picture very much.
ReplyDeleteI do love the sunny weather even if there are clouds. However, our mountains need snow and we depend on the snowpack for agriculture and summer water, so I'm hoping for colder temperatures and rain here which will mean snow up there. Love the reflection photo!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are are breath of fresh air for me this morning. Everything is so clear and vivid in them. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTamaracks are a favourite. I think they want us to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteAll such beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a beautiful spot for a nice walk. Love the fall leaves and the still water. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe bare tree branches bring out the melancholy
ReplyDeleteLooks like wonderful weather in November.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on.
It is a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteLovely still water and beautiful reflections!
ReplyDeleteBright days certainly enhance the yellows.
ReplyDeleteThe reflection on the water is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI like this blog post and I love the photos. Thank you for sharing this. Wishing you a wonderful week and a great and Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteDays like that remind me of one of my top-ten favorite poems by my favorite poet of all time: Emily Dickinson. Permit me to grab my Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson, which always sits at my elbow, and give it to you in full:
ReplyDeleteThese are the days when Birds come back --
A very few -- a Bird or two --
To take a backward look.
These are the days when skies resume
The old -- old sophistries of June --
A blue and gold mistake.
Oh fraud that cannot cheat the Bee --
Almost thy plausibility
Induces my belief.
Till ranks of seeds their witness bear --
And softly thro' the altered air
Hurries a timid leaf.
Oh Sacrament of summer days,
Oh Last Communion in the Haze --
Permit a child to join.
Thy sacred emblems to partake --
Thy consecrated bread to take
And thine immortal wine!
xoxo
Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteA lovely surprise for you.
I think I need a Tamarack tree. They're so lovely.
ReplyDeleteThose are so pretty in the late fall.
