Our First Autumn Drive

It was a great day for firsts and lasts. I expect we enjoyed our last breakfast on the restaurant patio by the river. It was the third one this season, and soon the weather will soon become unappealing. I have blogged about these patio breakfasts before, so that's all I need to say at this time. Later in the day, we stopped for our last ice cream cone. Not that we have had many, but these stands will likely close after this coming Thanksgiving weekend.

As for firsts, the day was very beautiful, which was kind of a first considering recent weather. It was also our first autumn ramble of this short season and, hopefully, not the last.

Somewhat surprisingly, there were spots where the colour was peaking after what seemed to be a very slow start. The trees across the farm field are a pretty good example of that. I can't imagine the colour getting any better. You can see how bright and beautiful the day was.

Shortly after that we came to a spot where our Mississippi River crosses Blakeney Road. It's the river that flows through our town but many miles, twists, and farther on. We were driving by without intending to pull over when the reflections beckoned to me..

I took one more photo (well I took several more, but only one was acceptable) peering down a hill to a barn with quite a wall of colour behind it.

It was really good to get out and soak in the colour on such a gorgeous day.

Beautiful drive out & wonderful photos. I see something in your photos we have not seen locally for days & that is sunshine! I am hopeful that maybe today will have some sprinkled in.

Thanks for such lovely photos...and considering the day of joyful sun and views, my heart is glad for you all having that experience, and for me getting to see these glimpses of beauty. The river scene is stunning. I love the yellow trees with the barn, but admit the river just takes me in...further, deeper, shine, reflection and all.

I'm tempted to leave the U.S. and to make Canada my home ! ... or, at the very least, come to visit you !!! For now I'll settle on loving the photos that you share with us.

What a gorgeous day! I love the reflections and the color. I'm fonder of the red/orange palette than the yellow but the best is a mix of the three.

Who knew there were two Mississippi Rivers in this world of ours!

Thanks for sharing them with us. Nothing bright or cheery here.

You've inspired me to realize I'm wasting daylight - literally.
Like you, I'd better get out for that last ice cream cone.

We have had gorgeous weather here these tow days that my sister has been visiting. Will be sharing photos once they head on to their next stop.

No ice cream cone shops in your area remain open past Thanksgiving…… or is it that only the little ones you like to stop at? I hope there are some ice cream cone shops that you CAN visit during the long winter….. it would be hard to only have grocery ice cream as your option.
