It had to be better, for it couldn't have really been worse, or even as bad for that matter. But that is a negative way of looking at it, for it was genuinely good. It's just that this year's Thanksgiving stands out in sharp contrast to last year's, rather bleak, isolated COVID event. Not only did we not have a family get-together last year, but the turkey meal that we ordered was simply not good – not even close to good. In fact it was close to being abysmal.
This year, we had Sha and the kids over for a pretty traditional TG feast with turkey, stuffing, roasted carrots, creamy potatoes (brought by Shauna) and excellent gravy. There was pumpkin pie from a church baking sale topped with whipped cream for dessert: not my favourite pie, but it is traditional to have it once a year, and it is even tolerable once a year with the cream topping.
After dinner, we took two ad hoc family portraits. With the light, or even the lack of it in the second photo, they are technically very very mediocre photos, but they are a record of a fine Thanksgiving and family event.
Sue forgot to remove her sunglasses for the second photo, so, for fun, I did a head swap using the other photo. I'm not very good at this, and I am okay with my less than perfect technique because I have no plans for going into the head swapping business.
Happy belated Thanksgiving if you're Canadian, and a very early one to ye Americans.
Wonderful family photos. You head swapping techniques are very good, I would not have noticed had you not mentioned. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly a pro photographer would 1. swap his wife's head and 2. willingly admit to same!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I would not have noticed the head swap if you hadn't mentioned it. The shadows in the first one make it difficult to look at.
ReplyDeleteSo glad this year's celebration was what it should be. Yep, pumpkin pie is weird--nobody's first choice but it doesn't feel like Thanksgiving without it.
ReplyDeletewe love pumpkin pie here. Look forward to baking it soon. Oven is being fixed as I write.
ReplyDeleteThe second photo doesn't have the Sha's full face like the first photo. I like that one better.
A perfect Thanksgiving! Love all of your photos.
ReplyDeleteFamily photos are always to be treasured! The only reason I noticed the head swapping was that Sue's face looked lighter than it should. The Thanksgiving feast sounds delicious; I love all that stuff although I prefer pecan to pumpkin pie.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about your other daughter just the other day.
ReplyDeleteI have never had pumpkin pie, but according to my Mum, you can make anything taste good by adding cream, including window sills…
I wish my family were as large as yours! It looks a lovely time was had.
ReplyDeleteWell, we didn't have turkey, but our son and d-i-l came for lunch, with a salmon bake.
ReplyDeleteGood times: Family and Thanksgivng.
ReplyDeleteI live alone, and I'm indifferent to turkey. It was a quiet day for me.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful family indeed.
ReplyDeleteYou are so critical of your photos. Such a professional!
ReplyDeleteI'm still coping with my reading glasses. I just hope for in focus.
I'm glad you had a happy thanksgiving.
Yes, us too. Close daughter and family. Turkey was a success, all 16lb of it. The daughter took it home. Phew. Our local hall, where I can dispense turkey soup, is still shut. Maybe at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHey, Sue is allowed sunglasses.
I keep forgetting you have Thanksgiving a month before we do. I hope you all had a fabulous holiday. You certainly take gorgeous family shots.
