Bits and Pieces

There was another first this week when Sue and the gals went to McD's for their kaffeeklatsch. It is the first time Sue has been there since March 2020. I still haven't been inside McD's, but at this point it is more down to a lack of opportunity as, sadly, there seems to be no one in the whole universe who wants to have coffee with me. Sniff.

That may not be totally true, for Bob and I stopped for coffee on our return trip from the boneyard. But we drank it on the run as it were.

As for the pandemic, this is a recent tweet from out health unit. We're doing about as well as possible.

The USA has now approved the vaccine for the over 5s. I expect that Canada will get on board in due course. We have to do our own studies, apparently. I don't know why we can't accept that the Americans, with their superior resources, have done due diligence. Oh well.

And the first province (at least as far as I know) has a plan to begin booster shots. There has been no news as yet here in Ontario.

Sue and I finished, or all but finished, putting the garden to bed yesterday. In our mid-seventies, I guess it shouldn't surprise us too very much that we get tired more quickly that we used to – as was the case in my roaming around the boneyard this week. My oh my, that was something.

Today, I shall take 5 bags of garden waste to the yard compost depot, and thus, we shall have cleared enough room be able to squeeze the car into our extremely narrow garage in time for Devils Night and Halloween. That is our annual goal. Although I don't expect any bad behaviour hereabouts, we might as well be cautious. Now, we are set for winter too – at least as far as getting the car out of the snow storms is concerned.

Good work!
I have the ladder up, but I'm not quite ready to climb it.

We've friends in Port Hope and were planning to meet for lunch. Sadly our the midpoint was Kingston, and they've more cases of COVID than Ottawa.

I've zero friends here, so I hear you! I had a friend down the road, but she's a busy psychologist, and I wasn't feeling up to meeting her as I was so depressed.
JB has several from Meals on Wheels. My volunteer work, I'm not quite ready for.

I am now triple vaxxed, but I still feel cautious about going into crowded venues. I might try a movie theater before the end of the year, though. Glad the little ones can now get vaxxed here.

We have our garden to do as well but it will have to wait until I feel better. You both did a great job. It is hard to be patient with yourself as you get older I find. The spirit is willing but…

Garden work can be taxing which means it must be good exercise. Dan has kept the leaves raked placing them in a new bed under the hemlocks. I'll plant it next year. All the grass we seeded has done well and some is quite long. We need our mower friend to return but it doesn't look like weather will cooperate for that this weekend.
As to paint color I started with yellow but Dan wasn't sure so we drove around and spotted a gray we liked. It was gray until we told our daughter who said almost every house on our road is gray. Then we looked at a reddish brown and even tested it out on the house. Then noticed the house across the green from us that was a faded color of brownish red and said yuck. Then it was back to yellow which has worked wonders.

I always enjoy your comments about the pandemic, putting things into perspective. I went to our local McD's one morning for coffee...walked in and every booth was taken by 2 to 4 guys with coffee and newspapers. Mobbed! So though I'd planned to sit and sip, I retreated to my car. You'd fit right in with these guys! (Did I mention all retirement ages!)

Your vaccination numbers are impressive. I wish we had the same or even close. :( I am triple vaxxed as is John. I still have to arrange an appointment for my mom. I'm sure you could arrange a coffee with a friend! I love my klatches. (never sure how to spell that word but my spell checker likes it)

Speaking of not having coffee with anyone (okay it's a stretch but I've been meaning to ask so this was my "in") -- have you heard how Lorna is doing? I don't know if you and she are personally acquainted and she did tell me that blog-commenting has become virtually impossible for her, but I'm hoping she and Dave are doing all right. Lorna is someone I'd love a chance to have coffee with. -Kate
PS you could answer this and thank you very much in a comment on my blog next time you're there. I'm more likely to see it as I rarely remember to get back and see if a blogger has responded to my comment on theirs. Which begs the question: why do I bother to reply to comments left on mine? Does anyone actually look back?

Went to Tim Hortons with a friend this week and sat inside and had our coffee like civilized beings.
Felt good.
Looking forward to the Boneyard edits, as the rain falls.
Fall back, eh.

Glad you're ready for winter, but sorry you have no-one to have coffee with! I do enjoy my coffee group.

We have all gotten our boosters at our house. Yay!!!

I've heard there's going to be Northern Lights that could be visible in the U.S. this weekend. I'll bet you'll get to see it even more.

And what a coincidence. We had the McRib yesterday. :-D

Yesterday I pulled my car into a garage for the first time in five or so years, which were rough on the frame of the car.

Congratulations on your excellent local vaccination rate. In my county in central TX (pop 38,000), we have just now reached 40%. And this is not due to lack of availability. Think I should move??? Geez.
