Flower Child

The Health System Adapts

I had an appointment with a specialist yesterday, reporting on my CT scan of several weeks ago. But instead of going in as previously scheduled, the office told me that the doctor would call me at home between 10 and 12. Sure enough, the phone rang at 11:30.

Since it was just a report, there was no need to travel in — a half hour trip — and the results were communicated and understood, and a further procedure was even ordered as a result of our conversation.

It made me wonder why more medical visits couldn't take place by phone or video chats. I wonder if the day will come? I wonder how many times a doctor actually has to physically examine a patient. Not always, for sure.

Onto the Daily Selfie(s)

I wrote yesterday that it was snowing out, so our selfie was taken in the backyard with the forlorn and neglected bbq off to the side.

Later, in a moment of madness, I posted my own selfie to the family using the silly fb app. I felt so pretty. In fact two tunes are struggling to take over my head space — I Feel Pretty and San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair). Sorry for the grumpy look, but the camera clicked before I was set.

A Bit of Canadian COVID-19 News

Very straight talk from Canada's Minister of Health. I am quite pleased at the performances of our leaders, even the one's for whom I would not vote. I don't see petty politics' cards being played much but serious grappling with the problem.

Health Minister Patty Hajdu is sending a warning to Canadians ignoring social distancing measures, saying it jeopardizes civil liberties and puts lives at risk. She anticipates these measures will last months, stressing 'now is not the time to take your foot off the social distancing measures.'

Most Canadians seem to be approving what their political leaders are doing, but did you see that a Texas politician claimed that grandparents would be willing to die for the economy for the sake of their grandchildren? I would die for my grandchildren but not for the economy.

A Tough Family COVID Decision

Our daughter made the very difficult decision to have the kids stay with their dad for the time being rather than continue to time share as it were. Shauna, who works in a retirement residence, is the most exposed of us all and feels the kids would be somewhat more isolated by remaining with their dad who mostly works from home. It wasn't a happy decision, but I think it was the right one.

Although the weather was not spectacular, we did go for a short walk (they're always short, so I should stop saying that). I didn't bother to take my camera, which is just as well because the pond was almost deserted.

Social Distancing Explained Again

Finally, something that even the most daft might understand.

What's On TV

We watch Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (movie) on Acorn. Although made by the streaming service, the film did have limited and selected playing time in USA theatres. While I liked the tv series, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, well enough, I am very meh about the movie.

Otherwise, we have been binging on the old MI5 (aka Spooks) series on Britbox. We watched the series once before, but a long time ago, so it is pretty well brand now for us. Apparently, it is also on Netflix.

  1. I'll have to try Britbox, I have the app on my phone.
I've been wondering if the way doing business will change too. So many people are now working from their homes successfully, perhaps we will see a lot more of that in the future. And you are right about doctors not having to actually be face to face with patients for every appointment.
    Stay well, and stay sane.

  2. I am not getting my usual exercise and realize that I am fighting depression without my usual routine. I'll try to pick myself up and take better care of myself. Maybe I need to be a flower child, too.

  3. Nice selfies...thanks for the flower songs as well (ear worms you know...la tee da Flowers in my Hair). Actually I woke with "We are the World" because I'd watched that performance yesterday. So it is a nice change in my brain. Be well.

  4. I will resort to watching previously viewed programs too. Reading is the mainstay here these days. I’m glad I received so many books for Christmas.

  5. I think Sha made the right decision.

I am so pleased with our politicians, as well. The US is screwed, though! They want to risk losing grandparents in favour of the economy. Dr. Fauci isn't appearing with the Trump side show, AKA press conference.
"Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick said grandparents would be willing to die to save the economy for their grandchildren."

  6. I knew you are a boomer but I never figured you for a flower child. Laughter is a fine mood lifter.
Sending all sympathy to your daughter. I can't visit with my Ottawa daughter or grandkid until this is over and I sure do miss them.
Loved Trudeau's 'go home and stay there' line. Good for him. A good communicator is vital just now and, in spite of my caveats, I like what he is doing.

  7. I stay home anyway so the quarantine does not really bother me. David is the one who misses going to the gym to exercise and socialize.

  8. I am quite ambivalent about returning to work right now if it were possible. I do live with two people in the high risk group and I don't want to be the one that infects.

We will be mostly shut in for at least two more months: June 1st. Apparently too many people behaved like idiots over the past weekend with its glorious weather and stricter measures had to be introduced over that as well.

  9. Many folks will or have made tough decisions about so many things, including child care. As long as everyone gets along and are civil, the harder course may be the best for all. Thanks for the daily selfies, which we have not been doing. Sue does look a tad chilly outside, but nice coat. I will be watching the Miss Fisher movie on Acorn this week, as I have a subscription, right now we're trying a free Britbox trial to catch new episodes of Vera and for me, Cold Feet. So far I haven't been inge watching anything, but have so many choices and free streaming ones from the local library as well.

  10. I watched that so many years ago!
I am sorry for Shauna, but it was the best decision for the children. And think how happy they will be to get home.

  11. Ah!! A fellow flower child!!

Our dear leader wants everyone to go back to work by Easter and whoever dies is merely sacrificing themselves to keep America great. I agree with you. I would sacrifice myself for those grandboys or my son or DIL...but not for the economy. I would prefer we have a fighting chance...and give each and every one of us a fighting chance by isolating if we can.

Hard decision for your daughter, but the best choice under the circumstances. She is one of the heroes still out there doing her job. We are blessed to have a world full of those brave souls. :)
