Bits and Bobs continued . . .
6. January and February tv has been lacking. We enjoyed Shetland early in the year, but there has been little new programming on either Acorn or Britbox, at least not of the type that interests us. At present we are watching old reruns on Law & Order from the mid-nineties. They do in a pinch, but they are so formulaic. The new season of Vera will be coming soon, as will The Voice, which we like.
7. We continue with our little walks, but we do miss some days. On Wednesday, the temperature dropped and the wind arose, and AC turned chicken, like the turkey that he is. We did sally forth yesterday, regardless. While it snowed overnight, I think we'll still be able to get out today, if only in the neighbourhood.
8. In the transition to the new computer, I somehow lost my list of passwords and other important data. The file that I was most recently accessing was one that I must have used more like ten years ago, so the data was all wrong. While my browser does save most of my passwords, it hadn't saved them all, and I was going around in circles trying to figure some of them out. I did manage to find another version of the file with the latest codes. It had the same name as the other, but, thank my lucky stars, it hadn't been overwritten. I have been sure to give the accurate file a new name that includes this year's date. Phew!
9. What the heck is up with red clothes for men!? Of course, I mean the lack of red. For several years now, I have not been able to purchase red tees, nor their long-sleeved counterpart. My old red tees are fading badly, and I can't replace them. If I do find something resembling red, it is usually very orangey or a dull burgundy. I want scarlet, or Satna red, or Coke red. In desperation, I checked out LL Bean and Eddie Bauer, two sites that I wouldn't usually think of, but neither was of any help. Woe is me.

Try Lands End. I saw they have a short sleeve t in what they call compass red. Looked like what you might be looking for to me. And it was on sale! Landsend.com
ReplyDeleteThe programming on Britbox is sorely lacking. I enjoyed Shetland though. Good luck with finding some new red clothing items, AC.
ReplyDeleteOh my yes, the passwords dilemma. Our parents would have no idea what the problem is. We must keep them safe, thus no sticky notes on the computer with them. I have a list of those that I use, as well as those that I haven't used but may sometime again...and updates are saved not as regularly as should be done. And changes seem to only happen when I have to go through the process of "forgot your password." Sigh.
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding those red clothes. When you do, I hope you will post about them. Not that you would ever see my guy in red. He prefers to blend into the background. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love reds! I see your point.
ReplyDeleteI loathe computer updates!
I gave up and started using a password manager. Hands down, one of the best decisions I ever made. Now, I only have to remember one password.
ReplyDeleteI shop for shirts via Amazon and have lots of red, to the point where my wife reminds me to get anything but red when I'm looking for more shirts.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your assessment of the current offerings on both AcornTV and BritBox, my decision to not renew last year was not regrettable. Even thiugh both had a price increase, that wasn’t the reason, but instead not finding enough shows of interest. I too would have looked forward to a new season of Vera, a terrific show.
ReplyDeleteSo far, the Apple Password manager on my devices has been working fine, I also maintain a file copy which gets printed out and yes dating files and documents is a huge help. Glad you were able to find a backup. As you may know from a recent post, I have a new computer and am getting used to the keyboard and touchpad as well. i do have an external mouse as well from a previous Apple computer.
Isn’t it a shame that the color red just can’t be that? Good luck with the ongoing search. A previous comment mentioned Lands End and I have a couple actual reds from that company.
I do see some red at Land's End in sweats and hoodies, which is not what I need. I am also not sure of their delivery to Canada, but I would try if I found what I wanted.
ReplyDeleteRed seems to be "out" this year. I'm seeing lots of orangish tones, which don't do a former red heads skin any favors.
ReplyDeleteColor fashion changes--right now we seem to be in a muddy period. The brights will return eventually.
ReplyDeleteDan likes Duluth Trading Company for men's clothes. We introduced one son in law to it with a gift card this Christmas. he bought a jacket and nice cargo pants. They may have the red you look for.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of red, also. I hope some of the suggestions help you find something. My phone and computer sync passwords but sometimes the password on one is wrong. That causes some problems.
ReplyDeleteI typed all of my passwords on the computer and printed it. I have the paper on top of my computer hutch. Kudos to you for having those daily walks. I wish I were like you. I tend to be a couch potato.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait for Vera to come on PBS or Vision rather than pay for a streaming service. Getting cheap in my old age.
ReplyDeleteLands' End ships to more than 180 countries according to their website... including Canada. Below are a couple of shirts that come in red.

Have a good weekend!
I have a hard time keeping track of passwords. Did I read somewhere that they are doing away with passwords and moving to something else? (might be wishful thinking on my part). Cant come soon enough if true!
ReplyDeleteMy passwords are in a hard cover book. All I have to do is remember which book, as I store it in the bookshelves looking like all the others, just in case. And keep it up to date. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many good movies either. We have had two losers this week. Yes, LLBean might have your colour. I have their website. Will go and look. Red is good.

They call it 'crimson' but it looks like the right colour. Logo is small.
I use a password managing program, too, Dashlane. It generates those monster passwords, and stores them and coughs them up for the applicable site.
ReplyDeleteSpring is on the way and we'll be able to get out on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteI've been re-watching some DVD films out of desperation. I don't have Britbox and wish I did! It seems like it should be easy to get red tees. I thought they came in pretty much every color.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust computers. I have all of my passwords written in a little "password" book from the Hallmark card shop. My brain would never be able to remember all of the variations. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI agree that BritBox is lacking at the moment. I wonder if it has anything to do with the sale of the parent company. Cannot wait for Vera to start the new season at the end of the month. Have you thought about dying your red T-shirts to refresh the red? Some of the new fabric dyes are much easier to use & give better results.
ReplyDeleteThis year is the 40th year of the Great Aloha Run which Art and I did virtually. Would you believe this is the first time that they're giving us RED Finisher t-shirts instead of white. Yay!
