Something strange has happened. On February 05 2009, I posted a video online of newborn Jonathan. It was titled, A Few Minutes Old. Sue had taken it of the parents admiring their new little human right after he was born.
For some strange reason, I have recently been getting comments all these 13 years later. It's not as though I've been getting them all along either, or at least I haven't noticed that, but all of a sudden they are trickling in. The video has had more than 9000 hits.
Go figure.
Meanwhile, I am experiencing another internet puzzler, this one with my Twitter account.
I use Twitter more or less as a source for news, much of it having to do with the hockey team that I follow. I don't post much but occasionally comment on posts.
Suddenly, ladies of a certain age and bent are befriending me, following being the twitter term.
In the past few years, I have periodically had the occasional notice that a new, pretty young thing has decided to follow me, but recently, I have been getting quite a few such notices.
In the case of JJ, I am imagining the video was somehow referenced somewhere else, and has been noticed there by others. It’s only a guess, but I can’t think of another reason for the video gaining some traction after all of this time Thankfully, the comments are nice and not spamish.
So, right or wrong, that is my thesis about the JJ video, but I don't know why, all of a sudden, a dozen gals has been attempting to get my attention on Twitter.
You know what they are after, of course: donations for the privilege of seeing their sights. They are barking up the wrong tree with this old fella, let me tell ya, for I block them right away.
Well, you are in good company...I don't do twitter, but have certainly had my share of soft porn enticements on my emails. Maybe FB, but I don't remember. I block so many ads on FB it's kind of a running joke, what will they try to sell me next! At one point it was male soft porn...kind of gay in theme!
ReplyDeleteI gave up Twitter a few months ago. Best move I ever made. I cannot imagine being on there during this time in history.
ReplyDeleteThe video of JJ is adorable!
I suspect you are right about the video.
ReplyDeleteHey, I follow you for the camera tips. :-D.
I was suspended from Twitter for twelve hours for standing up to a misogynist. That was in 2019. It was never lifted.
ReplyDeleteI don't do twitter either, although I did sign up a few years ago. :-)
ReplyDeleteYears ago, there was a way to see what was driving traffic to a particular blog post. Occasionally I would have a post found and once, republished on a more known forum, which dramatically increased hits. I'm guessing YouTube probably has something similar.
ReplyDeleteI guess you should be honored. I personally don't mess with married men! I just like your blog.
ReplyDeleteCheers! Linda in Kansas
Ah, twitter. More deleting than reading. FB, from guys pretending to be older military officers - delete, delete, delete. Hope springs eternal in the heart of a grifter, spammer etc.
ReplyDeleteI am befuddled by Twitter. I occasionally read some news on there but never post anything. Facebook trolls are after me: they are always doctors or military men, widowed, working abroad. I give them short shrift. That's interesting about the video. I've had old FB posts commented on; that appears to bring it to the forefront for other people to see and remark on.
ReplyDeleteI am only on blogger and very infrequently on youtube. Nothing else. But I bet someone made note of that video somewhere, yes. :)
ReplyDeleteNot on Twitter or FaceBook. I do have an instagram account that I rarely post to but read the posts of a handful of relatives, NASA and POTUS that post on there. Constantly declining requests to follow me and now that you mention it almost exclusively from men. I delete them.
ReplyDeleteI find Twitter a bit confusing. I think perhaps it is difficult for me, as the character limit encourages folks to often avoid the conventions of grammar, but especially punctuation….. and punctuation’s various functions are so ingrained in me that it tires me out to try to discern context without appropriate punctuation.
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed your colorized images yesterday. You have a great deal of skill and talent with PhotoShop. I wish I had even 1/3 your finesse with the damnable program.
So, with having lived in Montreal for a number of years, I would anticipate your French skills must be considerably higher than the average non-Quebecian Canadian citizen? Is this true? I loved visiting Montreal. It was the destination my wife and I chose for our honeymoon so very long ago. Using the Canadian Rail System to travel there was also wonderful and grand in all regards!
PipeTobacco
You are right. That's really odd.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the photos of you in plaids that draws them in.
ReplyDeleteYou have them figured out and you know what to do.
ReplyDeleteYup. Spammers. But at least polite ones!
ReplyDeleteI don't do Twitter either and I killed my Facebook account. I just can't keep up with everything. These women could be coming to you just because they see a handsome, talented fellow. Don't tell Sue though.
ReplyDeleteI've totally stopped getting the emails from an employee at some foreign bank I have never heard of, giving me the good news that he wants to give me a million pounds merely in exchange for my bank details. But I never knew why they stopped. The blog comments are a puzzler. Maybe that nice little video has been mentioned in some influencer's channel.....?
