As I have said before, Lacey likes JJ, and JJ is good with cats.
His own cat, Emmie, came to the end of her days this week, and it was time to help her cross the rainbow bridge. Shauna found a vet who would come to the house, and JJ made the decision to stay home from school to be with Emmie and Mom at the end. How brave for a thirteen-year-old boy! Both Sha and JJ had a good cry, but they were there for her in her passing.
Unobtrusively, the vet left this little candle burning, and they didn't notice until later. It then caused a few more tears to flow, but what a sweet gesture it was.
Goodbye, dear girl. When you were in need, they took you in and gave you a good life. And you gave back to them.
Such a good life for a treasured pet. No wonder your cat loves JJ like she does.
ReplyDeleteCats are a treasure to us, however long we're lucky to have them in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute to a great cat who looks like my dear departed CK Duncan. Also a snuggler.
ReplyDeleteI know how hard that is -- and it doesn't matter the age, although when you've had that companion for all or most of your life, that's an enormous loss. She was so beautiful and sounds like a wonderful companion. Lacey (Lizzie's double) looks like she will help J.J. through this. I hope so.
ReplyDeleteThat was nice for JJ to be able to stay home. I've heard of vets coming to the house for "end-of-hospice" appointments, but that is totally cool to leave the candle. Truly a special vet.
ReplyDeleteIf JJ is so naturally good with cats, he should consider becoming a vet. It's a lot of hard work to get through school, but a nice and secure career. (Oh yea, my son's a vet.) Linda in Kansas
A big event which will live in JJ's memory with his love for the dear cat. Life events do deserve to be celebrated whether it's the beginning or the end, or somewhere in the middle. And a ritual with a candle is quite enough to be a reminder of the event. Celebration of the life of a cat includes this series of photos which you shared. Thank you for letting us be part of the event.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of the loss of a beloved cat. I imagine JJ will have many cats in his future.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that they lost her, but it sounds like they've always been there for her when it counted. Black cats are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe loss of a pet is a tough one. JJ is very sensitive and that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThey will always remember her.
ReplyDeleteI just love the bag photo. Yes, it was amazing of JJ to stay. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteAw, there are lots of lessons in helping kids through end-of-life processes. This is really humane.
ReplyDeletePets are like family and it is always sad when they leave. Nice that JJ and his mom stayed with Emmie and also a lovely gesture by the vet.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
ReplyDeleteIt's so very sad to lose a beloved furry friend.
