Heirloom Tomato

Coming fresh from a friend's garden, tomatoes are so much better that supermarket tomatoes. This heirloom variety doesn't look good compared to what we are used to, but it sure tastes good and better than we are used to.

Now that looks like a tomato I could eat!

I agree totally! They have had the time to become a tomato, not forced or pushed.

That looks like a Cherokee Purple--my favorite!

It's a pleasure of summertime to have tomato sandwiches, which are somewhat messy but oh so delicious!

Yes, summer is tomato time. BLT sandwiches, grilled cheese with tomato slice inside, sliced with pepper on top, or scalloped tomatoes that I made last night with a pint of cherry tomatoes I got from our CSA and two from one of the two plants I have. Delicious all!

I had a big thick slice of tomato on whole wheat for brekkie this morning. So yum!
I grew several varieties this year: Brandywine, Aztec, BestBoy (with seed I saved) and Black Krim. By far the best flavored one of the lot was Aztec.
You commented on my post about the fish and chips. Apparently one of the best places in Canada is in Almonte at the Cheeky CHippy. hmmm.

Nothing better than a tomato sandwich made with a tomato out of the garden. Yummy!

I love homegrown tomatoes--they are so flavorful, unlike the store bought ones.

It does make a difference, growing your own, or buying local. My daughter had a weirdly-shaped one, as well.

Oh my gosh! That is the most unusual tomato I’ve ever seen. It looks very delicious!
