Strongback for a Weak Back but Not Yet

For years, I couldn't for the life of me find a roll-up lawn chair to suit my stupid back with its stupid bulging disks. As you must have gathered by now, we like to sit in parks, so I considered a comfy womfy chair to be of some importance. If memory serves, I once purchased three different chairs to help alleviate my condition. Despite the fact that one of them even had an insertable, blow-up pillow, none was suitable for long sits. Not only do we like to sit at parks, but sitting for many many hours at Celtfest was really too uncomfortable.

Then, I saw one called Strongback at the popular, local, casual clothing store – Marks. But I didn't buy it at first because it was twice as expensive as my other chairs which had been even more expensive than lesser lawn chairs. Eventually, I capitulated and have been quite happy that I did. I can sit in it comfortably for hours, even for a whole weekend concert.

Unfortunately, it recently broke. By this, I mean that one fastening part fell out. While it could possibly still have worked, this old bod didn't need to have the chair collapse with him in the chair. Which would have dumped said bod unceremoniously out of the chair and onto the ground.

These chairs are not exactly sold on every street corner, but I did find one online – at Amazon, of course. I hesitated for it was twice the price of the original chair which as I have noted had been at least twice the price of regular lawn chairs. After some dithering, I put it into the cart and purchased it.

It came yesterday. I don't know why Amazon will not put the parcels inside the porch, but we are usually around and the doorbell system usually lets us know, through Alexa, when someone approaches the door. I was alerted and went downstairs.

As it came

Unboxed

I set it up for a picture and sat in it briefly to check it out, but I didn't get Sue to come out and take a picture, for the poor lass doesn't take the heat well. With the temperatures being 32C/90F with a feels-like of 40C/104F with the humidity taken into account. I went back into the house to remain there for the rest of the day.

At the ready

I am sure that this rather pricey chair will get much use, but NOT YET!

  1. At this point, comfort is most important and as you say, you & Sue like to sit in the parks. Not a lot we can do these days, so sitting in comfort in the park is a priority.

By the way, you used one of my most favourite words ... capitulated (col).

  2. Looks a lot like a cheap chair I got at the grocery store. Wonder what makes it so special?

  3. I'm glad you were able to find another one, even if you had to pay a bit more for it. :-)

  4. Comfort has become so much more important after age...(?) And of course our health! We are who we are, and want what we want!

  5. we seem to go through those cheapo chairs every summer. I must admit though, the price is right. Several of them have been freebies from one of the Misters suppliers. I bought a fold up chair at Cdn>Tire about seven years ago that I LOVE. We frequently use it in the house if we run out of seating. I'll be sad the day it bites the dust.
I don't see any outdoor sitting until the weekend. The dog is out rolling around in the grass for the last hour or so though. He better enjoy it while he can as the heat is building and pretty sure a thunder boomer is in the wings.

  6. @Marcia. I think you have to sit in it to feel the difference. It is constructed with fab lumbar support for people like me. Strongback has a website if you really want to know.

  7. It doesn't look like it would cost that much, but if the back support works, it's well worth the money. Comfort is critical!

  14. Yes, too hot to sit in the park. I'll tell G about the chair. Maybe his discs will like it too.

  15. I hope you get to use it soon, AC.

  16. Understandably the current heat wave would not make anyone want to sit outdoors, and hope that when you resume doing so that chair is helpful.
