Bejewelled Snow

This was going to be one of those mornings when I had no grist for the [blogger] mill. That would be okay; there is no blogging law requiring me to post daily although I seem to be just about doing that.

But we had a light snow much of yesterday. It wasn't enough for the contractor to pay a visit, but our neighbour helped anyway. They often come over when there is not enough snow for the contractor to come by or to clean up afterward. I/we can do the job, but they seem anxious to help.

Last evening, their daughter helped too as she requires a community project in order to graduate. We will be happy to sign the required form.

That was a but of digression to get around to telling you that it is quite pretty out there this morning. There is a glaze on the trees that is being caught by the light.

I took up my compact camera, which sits on the shelves behind me, and fired a few shots through the window.

Photos of bejewelled snow don't usually turn out very well, and while these are not perfect and not nearly as good as the real thing, they are not bad either.

Good enough for you to get the idea anyway.

  1. I shovel mostly alone but recently a big strapping boy from across the street has given me a hand, and a neighbour two doors down will sometimes do the sidewalk with his blower, but I can't rely on it. And.....I have no contractor, so whatever the dump I do it myself. If the snowbanks get much higher I am not sure where I am going to put it.

  2. You were going for the diamonds too I see. We had snow yesterday then again overnight. Today is a beautiful blue sky day. Just back from a walk to library. Had to make an appointment and mine was at 10. Have a load of books to read to granddaughters and two for me.

  4. Very nice shots. The first one should be framed and sold at the store.

  5. After seeing your pictures I feel very wimpy ... living in North Carolina in the U.S. means that snow is rare and our multitudes of rain can't compete for beauty !!

  6. I like the sparkly diamond like snow/ice. We don't usually get it here, but did during this last snow storm. It's great to have helpful neighbors!

  7. Yes, I think you achieved a good attempt to show the sparkle on trees against dull grey shadows from the neighboring homes. I sometimes wish cameras could really see the way our eyes do. Brilliant sunlight just seems to become white and grey and black tones instead of the amazing views we see.

  8. Love the photos. They will have to do me until the next time snow arrives in our part of the world.

  9. It was quite a lovely sight, AC, even if taken from indoors. The all day light snow here did not admit to more than a couple inches of new snow.

  20. That was a pretty Hoar Frost yesterday. Nice that you have kind neighbours to help out.

I hear you about daily blogging, I tried that years ago & even before lockdowns & restrictions, I did not feel I had many exciting things to write about, hence my twice a week ... & now that is even pushing it (lol).

  21. Everytime that I see the sparkling snow, I remember standing in the yard of our childhood home bundled up, and staring all around at a white so bright that it hurt my eyes. It amazed me then, and all these years later, I remember that amazement well.
