To be frank, this was not really a colour ramble as such, for we were not toodling around the countryside just to see what we could see but on an errand.
No siree! We were on our way to the Civitan (mostly a seniors group) in Almonte to pick up our Thanksgiving apple pies. (Yes, you Yankee Doodle Dandies, our TG is this upcoming weekend, at the peak of autumn and at harvest time, which makes abundant sense.)
By the way, their pies are the very best — absolutely scrumptious. We ordered four; they won't last long. Unfortunately, they only do this at TG, at least with apple pies. I think they do something else at Christmas and maybe at one other time of year. They are so well known that they sell hundreds.
When we arrived at Almonte from our rural concession, we were to turn right to the Civitan, but the left view looked so grand that we returned after picking up the pies.
We parked opposite the Auld Kirk, a church by the cemetery — basically a pioneer church although not a wooden structure. You can see the colours that drew us, by the road behind the kirk.
At the side of the church, I got this rather fetching — to me anyway — flare. Light flares can be ruinous, but I like this one. And doncha luv the colour?
From there I wandered across the road to have a look at what drew me back here in the first place. This is fill-your-soul kind of view for me.
Off to my left in the above shot was private property, so I kept myself to the edge by the road as I peered through their wooded lot and spied this tree in the distance. Gotta love it with that colour in the background? I think this tree deserves a study of various shots at various distances, but alas — private property.
The colour is at its peak. Today, as I write this, which is now yesterday as you read it because I am building up a queue of post again, we will go on a longer and more far-flung ramble onto hitherto unknown — to us — backroads.
Yes, AC, you are right about your Thanksgiving celebration coming at a better time than here in the U.S. This year it will be so late at the end of Nov. with Christmas following barely a month later. The images of the fall colors along the roadway were quite colorful. Too bad about the private property...
ReplyDeleteI love that spot. We've been by many times, picking up JB's meds.
ReplyDeleteIt's been so lovely out there.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, that tree is calling out for more.
great collection today (or yesterday!) and oh I imagine what fun you'll have with eating those pies. Is Thanksgiving on Sat or Sun? It certainly is at the right time of harvest...and woe is our sad one late this year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fall colours!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is the last one but the road shot is beautiful too..
ReplyDeleteSince we don't have fall colors in Hawaii, I'm really appreciating your photos. And gosh! I LOVE apple pies.
ReplyDeleteThat tree IS so photo-worthy!
ReplyDeleteDobrze piszesz
