Caturday 65: Lacey Winchester Brings Me Down

Lacey was escorting me downstairs for her 4 o'clock afternoon feeding (although the photo is from a morning feeding).

I called to Sue, "Lacey is bringing me down."

And then I started singing what I remembered of the song, Winchester Cathedral (poor quality video).

The original version of the New Vaudeville Band was an assemblage of studio musicians, specifically gathered by Geoff Stephens to record the song "Winchester Cathedral" [1966], which he both wrote and produced. The record sold over three million copies worldwide, earning the RIAA certification of gold disc status. (Google)

So now, Lacey has a new name, or I should say, an additional name, for Lacey forever will be Lacey.

Her additional name is Winchester. She is now Lady Lacey Winchester.

It suits, for she keeps on bringing me down . . . so to speak.

Now, who among you know the song? I had the refrain down pat and part of the second stanza. From 1966: not bad, eh? Mind you, I was a little weak on the Oh-bo-de-oh-do part.

Winchester Cathedral
You're bringing me down
You stood and you watched as
My baby left town

You could have done something
But you didn't try
You didn't do nothing
You let her walk by

Now everyone knows just how much
I needed that gal
She wouldn't have gone far away
If only you'd started ringing your bell

Winchester Cathedral
You're bringing me down
You stood and you watched as
My baby left town

Oh-bo-de-oh-do, oh-bo-de-oh-do

Oh-bo-de-oh-do, do-do-duh

I remembered it! Yay!

I am always afraid when the golden grand-dog visits that I will trip over her on the stairs. She always wants to use the stairs when I do.

I recall that song very well. It was like an ear worm in my head of those lyrics...
that now won't go away again!

I have a little dog that likes to circle my feet. Good thing you didn't get tripped up!

Great candid photo of your life, and a cat-chy toon to go with it!

Funny, for a minute there I thought you were going to say that Lacey tripped you while going down the stairs. I am glad that did not happen!

It's been a long time since I heard this one! I'm impressed you remembered the lyrics. Here's to Lady Lacey Winchester.

That is a happy curl in Miss Lacey's tail.

She does have quite the regal name. At first (before reading the post), I thought she tripped you coming down the stairs. Mari has come close to doing that to me!

LOL. Your mind darts off in startling directions first thing in the morning. Mine goes no further than 'cooooofffffeeeeee....must. have. coffee...."

I was worried she tripped you, as well!

I immediately went to ELO's song, Don't Bring Me Down. Glad that Lacey is only escorting you down, not tripping you down :)

I'm pretty sure I've heard it before. Saturday nights on the farm, usually there was only one station that came in clearly in our cabbed tractors and it played Solid Gold Saturday Night. Since the songs were before my time, it was mostly a time to zone out and just get the field work done so I could go in for a later dinner and bed.
