17

Although her actual birthday was on Friday, Darling Girl will celebrate her 17th birthday with us later today. Time does fly, and some of you have been with me and her for all of the journey or most of it.

As usual, I heave put together a little card. It used to be that I had plethora of photo choices for my cards, but now pictures of Danica are fewer and farther between. It's not because we don't see the kids or that she's averse to photos, but it is just the way that life goes.

Front of Card from a recent photo of mine.

The Inside, featuring a composite by Sue that she earlier sent to Dani via FB on her actual birthday.

Not too long ago, I found myself looking at a picture folder from June 2010 when the kids were 3 and 1 years old. I put some aside for a possible blog. I hadn't planned on using them in a birthday post, but since they were still in the queue, today seems like a appropriate time to stroll down memory lane.

Of course, I wasn't thinking birthday at the time, so I had also set aside some JJ pics, which I will also append here, even though it isn't his birthday.

  11. Wonderful card with clever sentiments! I haven't been here since the beginning so it's delightful to see pictures of your grandchildren when they're younger. Happy Birthday to Dani!

  12. Are those little child pics all of Danica? There is one that could be JJ. Of course, in the course of taking photos, all sorts of things are caught 'in the moment' as they say.
I love the composite Sue did. She does have an eye.
As do you. Those are all great Danica shots and I remember those years well. She was aware of the camera, bright and funny child that she was. I had one daughter like that, but the other daughter and the grandkid did not react the same way, as if they were communicating with the lens, the way your gorgeous grandkid did and still does.
And I hear you about losing photo ops when they get older. Zooming by. Here and gone again. Lovely to see them.

  16. Happy birthday to the young lady.
I sure miss our grandies. Jos is taking photos of the sports teams for the yearbook. They are happy. That is the important thing.

  22. Great images old and new! How do you keep track of your photos? I am at a loss on how to do it in any logical way. I would like some sort of program that could name them in some Sensical fashion without me having to name them myself. Probably only a pipe dream.

  25. @Pipe: I have a folder for each year, and within it a folder for each month. The trouble is that when I think of some photo that I want to retrieve, I first have to remember when I took it. Life is hard. 😁

  26. Awwww Happy Birthday, Danica! When I whipped out my phone and started showing pictures of Allissa at age seven and nearly took my own daughter out with emotion, I was struck by how these cursed (haha) phones have made possible so many hundreds of wonderful pictures of our grandchildren. When my kids were little, it was a Kodak Instamatic and I'm sure you remember the quality (or lack of same) of those pictures! We didn't have the money for a lot of studio photos of the kids, so the way they looked is lost in time. I remember them well in my heart, but I can't look at photos and I'm amazed at the wealth of photography these younger mothers have. I'm so glad. xoxo
