Record Heat

July brought us record-breaking heat, but we often found coolness in the shade by the river. Mind you, we avoided the hottest hours and the hottest days.
From a local Weatherguy on Twitter: It’s now official. Ottawa just had its hottest July on record. The mean temp was 24°(75°F), the highest since records started in 1938 at the airport. The average high was an astonishing 30.5°(87°F)! Rainfall came in at 54mm(2.1"), but amounts varied across the city.
Usually we visit there with friends, but Sue and I went by ourselves on Thursday. Rain, or at least the threat of it, curtailed our time to some degree, but it was good while it lasted. We listened to music from the poor-quality speaker that I attached to my phone. You can her some of it as I pan along the river in this clip.

There is usually interesting activity on the river, from geese to seagulls and swimmers to paddlers. A colourful group of kayaks went past, paddled by kids just learning the skill.

Our chosen spot.

We returned on Saturday for a visit with Bob and Batb.

People began setting up for a wedding right beside us. Of course, we were gone long before the ceremony was due to begin. Although it may not look like it, each row of seats was safely distanced from other rows.

Hopefully, August will be at least somewhat more temperate. No more heat records, please.

Your river views look a lot more secluded than our own, by the fact that there’s copious shade and green grass. We have none, so our river sitting has to be on cool days or evenings. Lately, it’s been restricted by hot weather.

This kind of heat makes one long for winter!

Lovely spot by the river. So gad you got out, and had that mono-pod to get selfies! Those wedding chairs are sitting way too close together, folks...6 feet needed sideways as well as front to back!

I would love to kayak.
I cannot canoodle yet, though, with my surgery. Soon!

Our weather has cooled down quite a bit...We'll see what happens next.

That is a beautiful spot! Kayaking looks like fun, although I would have to buy a kayak and then figure out how to transport it. That music makes me want to river dance! Hope your weather is more temperate in August. Extreme heat is so limiting to our activities!

It would be nice to cool off. So far the forecast doesn't look promising.

I love your chosen spot by the river. It looks so peaceful and relaxing. We have had some record heat here too, keeps me gravitating toward the coolest spot . . . in the house.

Wishing you all the best . . . Stay Safe, my friend!
