Last Monday was great for snow photos in the park, but there is a log cabin very near the park on the opposite side of the road.
I took this picture last February.
I knew that I had a good one already, so I didn't photograph the house again on this day. But there is also a log shed next to the house. I walked around until I could get fairly clear shots from the road.
This next and final photo is of an old mansion, downtown near town hall. It's not proximate or similar to the previous log buildings, but it has a long history too.
That log cabin is terrific -- and yes, a great photo. I love it from the side angle too, and the red door really pops on the mansion.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The snow provided a pretty good photoshoot.
DeleteI am stunned by the mansion. Just wow. I don't see buildings like that around here at all.
ReplyDeleteI do love the log cabin and the different views.
Log cabins do exist around here but not in places I can photograph so I need to appreciate your photos.
It belonged to a doctor back in the day. I guess doctors did well for themselves. Still do, I imagine.
DeleteThat big house reminds me of homes I've seen in St. Louis MO, where I grew up. Stately architecture, I guess. Neat that apparently it was snowing. I love the log cabin in the snow.
ReplyDeleteIt's a grand location too: one the river opposite town hall.
DeleteLove the shots taken in the falling snow. They represent the landscape beautifully this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThe log sheds look like pioneer buildings, rude shelters from the elements. The manor house is austere, almost institutional.
ReplyDeleteThey still exist in places.
DeleteI like the idea of a simple, well kept log cabin paired with an extravagant, stately brick mansion.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite a juxtaposition.
DeleteI like the shots of the shed.
ReplyDeleteThere's something about these old log structures.
DeleteOh, that is a grand brick mansion! I'd love to see the inside.
ReplyDeleteProbably not. It's offices now. :(
DeleteThat cabin is a stunning capture. The brick mansion is also beautiful but there is something about a snowy log cabin in the woods.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's interesting, and the setting is better.
DeleteThe cabin is a beauty, a reminder of how hardy our ancestors were. I love our cabin rooms, but they are surely not airtight! Imagine having only the fireplace for heat, no airtight stove, no gas or electric furnace. Brrr.
ReplyDeleteThe mansion is stately, but needs some shrubbery to soften it up. Looks almost forbidding! Great pictures today, AC.
I imagine that it was kept better when it was a residence and not offices.
DeleteSnow really provides framing effect and an expanse of negative space
ReplyDeleteWhen it's fresh it can been quite pretty.
DeleteBeautiful! I love the old mansion.
ReplyDeletethere's more than snow on the roof. There's a good depth of snow that helps to show off the log building.
ReplyDeleteYou want to hear sad? I looked at that snow covered roof on that mansion. I also noticed that there were no icicles, and I thought, admiringly, "That is one well insulated attic."
ReplyDeleteOh...and they are both nice photographs too...that was my second thought. Honest!
Why is it that snowfall improves so many older buildings. like these? The mansion is impressive, as most tend to be just by their designation.

ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your photos very much. Thank you AC
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling cold just looking at your photos. My daughter has been complaining about the freezing weather in Illinois and the hazardous driving conditions.
ReplyDeleteThe first cabin shot is a perfect one. Love them all, but that one is special. Old buildings are fun; we had that as a prompt for my camera club and the lengths some people went to to get a perfect shot was a story in itself. Me, I shoot from the road.
ReplyDeleteGood shots!
