It was almost 0°F. As we passed the house, I glanced to my left, and this is what I saw.
Now you have seen what I saw: a crazy Canadian lady, sitting in a patch of sunshine on her driveway, drinking coffee and reading on a very cold day. Fortunately, it wasn't windy.
Ya gotta luv it. Right?
We asked her if we could take that picture, and she was more than willing. Sue got a little closer, or zoomed-in, or maybe a bit of both, and took another.
She was and is a very outgoing lady, a physiotherapist who was most curious about my cane. So we chatted for some time about my issues and some of her issues and so on and so forth, which is how conversations meander along.
Then we continued our walk, Sue looking for contrasty photos for her daily challenge.
I don't know if she will choose one of these or something else. Doubtless, if she chooses the third photo, she will do some cropping, but these are all SOOC (straight out of the camera).
If it were me, I might choose this one after cropping the background out because that tree shadow is pretty darn impressive. |
The physiotherapists I've known tend to be physically gifted, and this hardy lady sounds like one of them!
ReplyDeleteShe was pretty little, but that doesn't mean that she isn’t also strong.
DeleteI sat out on our porch yesterday in coveralls and had tea in the afternoon so I could watch and listen to bird song.
ReplyDeleteThat last shot is pretty neat, I love that shadow. It may look pretty awesome cropped and in B&W? Just an idea.
It is rare that I can find one tree with a nice shadow like that.
You qualify as a honourably Crazy Canadian, but hounour has to be spelled with a U.
Delete:-)
DeleteI so enjoy seeing candid people pictures but I've never been one to ask permission. I'm just too bashful/introverted.
ReplyDeleteI’m often pretty hesitant too, but this was in our neighbourhood, and iirc, she had turned to look and seemed welcoming.
DeleteI love a good tree shadow That woman was a hearty Canadian, but then you and Sue were out in it too and I'd say that's also pretty hearty!
ReplyDeleteWe've been pretty consistent with our walks during the cold snap, but we do bundle up.
DeleteI love it! I've never sat outside like this but I go outside in very cold weather, sometimes in bare feet, for short times, like putting cat food in the dish outside. BTW, I have that book! I like the last photo the best, too.
ReplyDeleteThere's a book? Why, so there is.
DeleteGreta to meet your neighbor who's hardy like you all. I'll be walking a while outside today, since it's due to get above freezing. There's still a lot of frost on everything, so maybe after lunch... I do like the shadow of the tree too!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that our deep freeze is abating, but temps will remain below freezing. I rather enjoyed the frigid walks because most days were calm and sunny.
DeleteIf she was out of the wind that would have been a warm spot for her. The wind has been awful this winter.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, the recent deep freeze has been mostly calm hereabouts. It was been remarkably pleasant as a result.
DeleteNoted: the title of her book. Fitting for the photo!!
ReplyDeleteShe recommended the book.
DeleteMinus 17c?? That's very cold for sitting out.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. Obviously she was ok in the patch of sunlight without wind. But one hand was bare to turn pages. I couldn’t do it, or would not.
DeleteLooks like the reader is demonstrating the title of her book!
ReplyDeleteWell spotted. 😄
DeleteNow why didn't I think of that to help with my Seasonal Affective Disorder? S.A.D.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a sunny, sheltered spot? Even inside by a sunny window could work. I remember once standing by door (inside) with my face toward the sun.
DeleteYa, kind of crazy, although it does look like a sunny day under a blue sky. Funny book title!
ReplyDeleteYou are one of several who have noted the book. I am the kind that never sees details, although she did talk about the book at the time.
DeleteNothing like that winter sunshine, and those striking shadows.
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine was the best part of the recent deep freeze.
DeleteLove her plucky attitude and the title of her book. I need to read that! I'm a fresh air fanatic but I would probably have trouble with the temperature, being in a moderate climate.
ReplyDeleteShe was loving the book, saying it is what she needs at this time.
DeleteWas her coffee still in liquid form? She is longing for summer I bet
ReplyDeleteWe talked for long enough that I'll bet it cooled off a lot.
DeleteThis encounter feels delightfully Canadian. Her book says it all...would enjoy talking with her too.
ReplyDeleteSo Canadian to sit a read in the cold. We do many an unusual thing outdoors this time of year!
ReplyDeleteGood book, fun lady.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just need to get outside. I'm spinning a scenario in my mind, where her husband is cold easily and keeps the house at 75F, and she is like, WHAT THE EVEN HELL, I WOULD RATHER BE OUTSIDE AND READ MY DAMN BOOK. I may be projecting.
ReplyDeleteI love the tree shadow, though I like it with the background. I guess I'm a SOOC person.
It depends on what you want to emphasize in a photo. My PoV is that you often can't be where you want to be when taking a photo, and you can't always have the lens that would work best. So, I am a happy cropper. There are some who don't crop, period.
DeleteYou could find me doing the same kind of thing on my porch, regardless of temperature. I sweep the snow off, get my coffee and enjoy being outside.
ReplyDeleteI like the second last shot. Nice lines. it was a good day for contrast, for sure.
