For months now, Jonathan has been scanning my height to see how he stacks up. At family dinner, our eyes almost met on the same level. I, maybe, still have a meagre inch on him.
I was surprised that our heights were so close and asked him how tall he was. He didn't know.
We did a quick, crude measurement. He seems to be 5'10".
"Wait a minute! I am 6'1+" and he is almost at eye level with me. People do shrink as they age. I wonder if I have lost an inch."
No, I haven't lost an inch. I have lost 2" inches. Actually 2+ inches. That's right! Once upon a time I was 6'1" plus a bit. Now I measured at 5'11".
I was shocked. Everyone was shocked.
I have been short-changed as it were.

Welcome to age.
ReplyDeleteOh my! That is a lot to lose. Have you had a bone density test?
ReplyDeleteI have lost about 1/2", from 5'1 3/4" to 5'11/4"---that's the height I was for all my teen years but somehow I gained a bit in my twenties. Larry has lost a couple inches though, and he really couldn't afford to, being only 5'4" at his tallest!
Yep--I've gotten shorter and my feet have gotten longer. And then there's the weight thing. Ah, the gifts of age.
ReplyDeleteThe stature loss happens to all of us. I've lost a couple of inches.
ReplyDeleteGet some of those moon boots and the topsy turvey bracket and hang upside down for a while. Might stretch that spine to get at least an inch back. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteBoth husband and I are decreasing in height.
ReplyDeleteI've gone from a towering five foot five and a half to, sigh, five foot almost three. I'm officially small.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Me too. Three inches and counting. Sans eyes, sans teeth, sans everything.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked that at a recent appointment, I had lost 1 1/2 inches in height.
