Silly AC awoke at 4 this morning, and try as he might, further sleep elided him.
After coffee and Sudoku, I dragged myself out with the camera. I think this is my first and only early morning photoshoot in two years: something I once did more often.
I wasn't sure where I was heading but ended up staring at townhall. I have done this a lot over the years, but a click is a click, and every click is at least a little different than the click before. Besides, I have never taken this exact photo through the trees.
As you can see, both above and below, it was pretty dark, but there was some colour in the sky – no clouds but some colour.
As the night lightened just a bit, what colour there was soon disappeared, and I went home. As ordinary and common as these photos may be, it did feel good to get out early and do something that I haven't done for a long time.
But I have little desire to keep awakening at 4 o'silly.

I have once in a while woken that early, but not that active!
I woke at 3:30. It wasn’t inspired to go out and take photos though. Yours are beautiful, especially the last.
Those are beautifully done even without the colorful skies. The silhouttes in the first are wonderful and frame the town hall.
The second? Just wow! You caught the light on the buildings, the sky, and reflections in the water!
Stunning.
Very nicely done. JUst goes to show what all the rest of us ,including me, are missing. Yawn.
I used to be an early riser. Now, seeing four o'clock on the mantelpiece means I need more sleep. The picture of the town hall in that approaching dawn light is very impressive and romantic. I don't recall seeing any of your other photos of it so I am coming new to this attractive building.
I like the tree framed bell tower. Sometimes I wake at 4. I always have such a happy feeling to realize that I don't have to get up. I snuggle back under the covers and and wait to fall back asleep. The difference between you and I is that I almost always doing.
Though those early morning shots are beautiful, in the spirit of Halloween, place a few little bats flying out. To be biologically correct, they'd need to be returning to the tower after being out all night. Linda in Kansas
You have given me an idea for Halloween. I’ll have to see if I can work it out.
Neither ordinary or common, imo.
I rarely see a sunrise but when I see what you have here, I'm inclined to get up when I wake up and give it a go!
I like your shots a lot. And your point is well taken, I have photographed diamond Head. Probably hundreds of times in 38 years in Hawaii. No two shots, even of the same thing are alike. I always shoot several, and sure enough one is eloquent. I get up between 4:00 and 5:00 also and go to bed between 10:00 and 11:00. I have never needed more than 6 hours sleep on a normal night. Perhaps you are just one of those people who doesn't really need the full seven or eight. Something to ponder. Have a lovely day
Good on you for getting out there! Bit early for me, but the mornings provide such a wealth of unexpected views.
I love these shots. I'm glad that you headed out so early for them.
I love that second shot! I'm rarely up for sunrises these days; it was common when I worked though. I should send you Mari; she wanted out of her room a 4 this morning. I was not a fan although I did manage more hours of sleep. (probably not high quality though)
That has the fantastic sombre and noir feel
I have the same sleep issues, normal for me is around 5-6 hours, often less, rarely up to 7. I listen to the radio. I'm a bit older than you, 78, and admire you getting up and doing things. I try to stay in bed until 5:30, then up and my one cup of coffee and the news. I read your posts most days, they are part of my routine. Thanks AC.
These are beautiful! That's an excellent use of your wakefulness.
I got up last night around 1:30 to use the bathroom and had the hardest time getting back to sleep. You were able to get that gorgeous photo of the town hall.
That first picture is quite nice. Looking forward to what you do with them.
I keep forgetting to check for the aurora. I'd like to figure out shots like this, though.
The last picture was the best for me, AC. At one time, I also awoke early and went out to take some photos, but it’s been a while ago. Now, When I wake early, I read.
