Following the Rays

Way back on April 07 I posted Spring Has Truly Arrived because that is the day when I first noticed the sunlight reaching my computer screen in the early morning. As you realize, that is several weeks after the the supposed arrival of the season via the equinox, but you know that true spring weather at this latitude doesn't arrive until later. In point of fact, it didn’t get here much before last week, and then it suddenly became more like summer

Of course, as the days passed, more and more of the screen was lit up or would have been lighted had I not reverted to closing the blinds. But on Friday morning (May 13) I opened them again when I shifted over to my chair. I looked up and saw that the rays were engulfing almost the whole wall.

Distortion results from having to pan the phone in order to get the whole wall in the frame.

The next morning, May 14, I looked up even earlier and saw that the rays reached farther, all of the way to the corner and even the door.

Unrelated, except that these photos were taken on the same mornings, here is big Lacey hanging over her little pedestal.

That was on Friday, but on Saturday, she took to her little hidey hole under the self that is in the background of the above photo.

Being not the cleverest of pussy cats, she tends to use this enclosed, almost airless space, more in summer than winter when it is already very hot and stuffy up here on the second floor. Cats, eh?

We notice the return of the light in our upstairs rooms on the front of the house is remarkable too. For us, it’s the return of the sun in the evening which marks spring. A noticeable shift in the light for sure!

The movement of the sun is a great sugn. When it's in ky eyes while I sit with morning tea on the sofa I know the season's advancing! Being the center of the universe..

Same here, and I'd forgotten how summer sun hits a wall right next to my window (outside) and reflects into my living room, right to the desk. I have to close that curtain each morning. But I am now at the season of cool mornings, hot afternoons...which means I can open windows after the chill wears off, hear the birds, enjoy the fresh air, then close things back up when the thermometer goes over 80. I'm happy in the mountains that it cools down each night. That's part of what attracts tourists up here. With their hermetically sealed "cabins which sleep 8" they never notice the great nights though.

Yes, I have also noticed the movement of the sun at sunrise from one place on the horizon to another. The march of seasons. Love that picture of Lacey showing her girth! :-)

Nothing like the sunlight coming into the room. I just love it.

The return of the light is fabulous. Love your rainbow coloured walls.

I am always amazed at the differences in the arrival of spring weather and light. You say it doesn't come that early at your latitude. Is it around 45 degrees (I might misremember your location)? Here in Glasgow, at 55.8 degrees, Spring arrives quite early. Isn't it fascinating? No doubt the Gulf Stream effect. Having said that, today it felt like autumn....

I notice it when the late evening sun comes through the north windows. Then it is spring.

Cats are smarter than you think and you already know they are stubborn.

Lacey is so very cute! She appears “chunkier” than usual in the last image. I suspect it may be a photographic illusion though as in most images she always seems more regular sized.

Chubby cats, though…. We have had two….. and I am not really sure if their “chubbiness” was a contributing factor, or if it was just their inherent personality….. but those two we had were ESPECIALLY cuddly, and would nearly DEMAND to be petted and nuzzled. They were great fun.

I tend to think cats really LIKE very wam spaces, even on hot, humid, days. It can be nearly 100 degrees (uh, around 38 C I think) and our cat will still purposefully bask in the sunlight quite languidly.

Cats like hot, the more the better.

Cats are adorable but not very logical. We're still waiting for spring in the Pac NW. I think we're south of you, but not by much.

Oops, I had that backwards. We’re farther north. 😂

Hurrah for the sun!

Maybe it's the way cats who look like that think! Lizzie (her twin!) will go to lake and no matter what the temp, crawl under a quilt, comforter, and the sheet to fully cocoon in the bed. I periodically poke her to be sure she is breathing! And the same in her hidey hole here.

I love your beautiful, colorful rays. What a grand sight!

Lacey has her ways- one of which is to confound you on a regular basis.
