In both cases, I decided to add a orange-blue split tone where I added some orange to the hilites and blue to the shadows. It is a popular look that I think I overdid in the second image. They do feel different than the originals, particularly the first image, I think.
I am not going to repost the initial versions, but they are back here for reference.

I do like that first one.
Love the first one...I'm pretty sure there's a barely paved road near here that still has that kind of bridge under tracks. Nice variation on sepia tone on the last one.
It certainly looks different with the monochrome. It reminds me of my husband, who is red-green color blind.
For me, the first one worked perfectly but the second is a little over warm, given that the stone reads as granite.
Interesting.... I like monochrome imagery. But, I am not sure how you selectively returned some of the orange highlights and some blue shadowing. I am thinking you use Photoshop? I have not really ever noticed that feature to selectively reads color there though. If it is easy to do so, might you list the steps to reach that set of tools in the menu? Also, as an aside.... have you ever used the technique that was popular perhaps 10 years ago where one part of the image can be full (or even enhanced) color and the rest is pure black and white? If so, is it easy to do? I never figured that out either. I am presuming this one image in color probably involves “masks” and “layers” which have always confounded my limited editing abilities.

Monochrome is great and I enjoy setting the digital camera and even the cell phone to do B&W white images SOC vs. shooting in color and then converting them.
