Winter Yet Remains

This is winter in Canada, or at least a segment of it in our town. Fortunately the icicles are not overhanging where people might tread although someone might use that back door.

Mage asked how much snow we have. This is out front. It hasn't changed much since I took this photo weeks ago, except for being dirtier. I am referring to pile out front, not the snow on the driveway or street which is gone although a fair bit of ice and hardpack remains.

The forecast predicts that daytime temperatures will begin to go above freezing on Sunday, and hopefully stay that way, but it will still take awhile for it to be amenable out there. So, we buy cheap plants and take little pictures. This one isn't a macro, which is a bit of a change.

Lacey bestirs herself periodically. I had to grab the camera and shoot quickly. I kind of like the blur even though it was unintentional.

Mostly though ...

And that's a good way to spend these cold days, not that I can manage to even get 7 hours.

  1. My family are escaping the snow and ice for the delights of Disney at March Break, leaving me to freeze by myself! Lots of snow in my front yard where the plow piles it up. Perhaps it will all be gone by the time they come back. But I don't think it will.

  2. A great way to spend the day. Mine is quite similar at the moment. Not much sleeping, but a lot of resting.

Hoping spring arrives soon at your doorstep.

  5. Loving that blur of cat motion...exactly how it happens! And snoozing, also just right! Our daffodils have all frozen away after first blooms. No snow though.

  6. All folks can talk about here is how soon winter will end. Your's is going to have to melt into a torrent. No end in sight yet, and I am so sorry.

  7. She's messing with you, that Lacey!
It's so different in a town than country!
We have lots of indoor plants blooming, with the increased light levels. It is lovely.

  8. AC:

Your icicle image is beautiful!!! And, your "cat in motion" image.... wow!

A few essays back, you talked about abstraction in photography. Your images are striking. Yet, for me, when I *try* for abstraction I worry that most folks will see it as a mistake or a misguided attempt of some sort. Do you have any thoughts as to how to frame your mind around making an abstract that is obviously meant to be that way for the audience? I guess I mean, how might one better capture the image with such a purpose so that all will readily understand the intent?

Again, I do thank you for your posting and discussing your photographic method. It is very helpful and meaningful for me. I read them all, even though I may not always comment.

  9. I love when cats tuck their paw over their face like that.

  10. Cats always have the best ways to spent cold weather days and it's a pity that we humans don't follow their lead more often. I liked the cat in motion photo as well.

  11. I like the blurry picture of Lacey too. She might be lying low in case one of the icicles spears her when she goes out of the door!
