Much Snow but no Snow Drops

We had a bit more snow overnight on Sunday, but we were enormously pleased that it wasn't the predicted 4".  The tree out front was pretty, but enough of pretty snow already! I think it was one of the Three Stooges who said: “I’ve had enough, and enough is too much.”

Although there is still a ton of snow out there, the low branch at the bottom left (above) was once mostly buried in it, so there has been progress. However, by March 08 last year, I was photographing snow drops.

When we drove by that spot yesterday, the snow was still just in the process of receding. The southern exposure and the warm wall behind, help to speed the process, so the snow drops will, eventually, appear, even if they are a bit late this year. Actually, they were probably a bit early last year.

The sun was out and the temperature rose above freezing, so our walk was quite pleasant. While we still required coats, we didn't need to layer. I took a phone photo of the snow along the shaded, south bank of the river.

When we got back home, Sue photographed me by the snow pile out front to show to her sister, Heather, who reports that at her place in Toronto the snow is gone. It’s only a three-hour drive, but it is a different climate zone.

What will the poor tulips do under that pile? In previous years, I could help them along by shovelling out some of their overburden, but it is not so easy anymore with my ridiculous body. I guess we have a few more weeks before I need to over-worry.

Meanwhile, as I already posted yesterday, Shauna texted that she saw her first robin somewhere along her journey to work. Why a robin would return to this, I know now. Talks about being a birdbrain!

I read what I thought was a brilliant post yesterday at think, stew. He uses the metaphor of a common law relationship ending in divorce to describe what is going on between Canada and the USA. But go there and read it yourself. In my next life, I want to be half as smart as this guy.

  1. Thank you for being selfish and hogging most of the snow this year. I greatly appreciate it!

  2. A big wow. You sure have received more than your normal share. So looking forward to seeing those spring/winter blooms! Our grocery store is full of little blooms (probably from South America) so I suggest you go hang out in a place like that to melt away some snow-blues.

  3. How funny. Tim and I were talking a few weeks back when this was just starting to raise it's ugly head and everyone tried so hard to make changes that would placate him. I said, "It's like being in an abusive relationship, and the horrible part is that we are the abuser."

Divorce is the only option. Your writer got it right.

  4. Flowers will be late, for sure. And what cock robin will find to eat is a worry with the lawns still socked in with snow. Off to read Mr. Brilliant. But you know, AC, you aren't exactly slow yourself.

  5. It has certainly been a long, hard winter. We're fully melted though I'm sure we'll get snow again despite the warmer weather this week. I did see robins yesterday, so that's good. Here's hoping you get a good melt and real spring soon.

  7. Some front lawns here that had the snow piled up onto them have snow but most is gone. It will be a while before we see flowers though.

  8. We are having mild weather this week. Can snowdrops be far behind? We didn’t have as much snow as you did this year. I think we would win regarding wind though.

  9. Having a stool to sit on is such a great idea to photograph snowdrops

  11. You probably have a few robins year round. Here, I've seen robins all year. We always get robins in the bird count.

  15. As usual, your photos are amazing! They’re truly BEAUTIFUL! The snow is absolutely captivating . . . in pictures. Being a born and raised Texan, I could NOT deal well with the snow. Thank you for sharing with us.

I wish you well, my friend. Have a great week!

  16. Snow drops?! Early or late, I'm still jealous.
Thank you for the shout-out, kind sir, but I'll never be as smart as you.
