Caturday 78: Snuggly Lacey, Good Grapes, and Bad Cauliflower

As I mentioned yesterday, I did have to do a small shopping — at a Canadian grocery store. The main reason was to get cat food, or Lacey would not have been a happy cat this morning.

There was a reasonable price on cauliflower, so I popped one in the cart. Same with grapes. Then, I looked down at the grapes and saw that they were from Mexico, and I realized that I hadn't vetted all of the products in my cart. That caused me to check the cauliflower. It was from the USA. I put it back.

We are serious about this up here. It is not just a one-day event although yesterday did demand a bit more of us than the average day. Many of us are avoiding American products as much as possible on a consistent basis. It's a small thing, but it is what we can do.

Meanwhile . . .  speaking of Lacey, I was surprised to happen by this old photo.

It was a picture of Lacey on my lap, six years ago, shortly after she moved in with us. She has never snuggled with me much, but she did on that day.

  1. We are doing the same here with U.S. products, leaving them on the shelves.

  2. That picture. Oh, it melts my heart! Well done, yesterday. Planning to be in your fair province in a couple of weeks -- and stock up on Canadian things!

    1. I hope the weather is a little better by then, but that part of the province (if I understand correctly) is somewhat more advanced than this region.

  3. Such a sweet face, and she's sure found good servants to live with. Oh please, keep those boycotts working so the sad state of the US feels the difference. I mainly am sad for farmers, but with all the government layoffs, two of my sons who work with government funded agencies might also feel the brunt of the Musk disaster. Medicare/medicaid and education cuts, oh my! If my Social Security is touched this angry old lady might move into a tiny home on the white house lawn.

    1. I think there need to be general strikes and upheaval, but that won’t happen, and I fear doom.

  7. We managed to stay home and spend nothing yesterday ... except for paying the young neighbour who shovelled our roof. Definite Canadian connection.
She is a pretty cat, even if snuggles are rare.

  10. Good for you. This is a sad, frustrating state of affairs. Meanwhile, I am thinking maybe I better not cut back on the garden this year as planned. We had hoped to take a couple trips but now I think we better add to the stockpile because bad times are upon us.

  11. Ditto. I checked every grocery item today and left behind every item made in the USA. I will miss things like oranges and avocados for the next four years but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

  14. Bravo, John! I'm happy to see anyone standing up to our idiotic "president." It is much needed and very appreciated. I didn't buy anything yesterday but my older daughter, her boys and I did dine at a family owned Mexican restaurant.

  17. Completely on your side in this! In fact, I think all reasonable people are on the same side. This is unsustainable and the pushback among the sensible is already growing louder. I'm nurturing some hopefulness.

  18. I have hope. It's all that is left.

  19. Good for you! I have a protest blog post going up on Wednesday. We're so disgusted with all that's going on and that meeting with Zelenskyy really showed what kind of men he and Vance are.
