The Grinch Lives

Our neighbour across the street has, or had, a rather exuberant display in front of their townhouse. There's not a ton of room on a townhouse lawn, but they filled it, and it is dazzling. Certainly as seen from my den it is.

But it is not as dazzling as it was.

You see that dark spot behind the snowman and before the porch?

Well there was once another well lit tree.

The tree is still there, but it is no longer lit.

In the middle of the night, someone cut the wires -- cut them so they could not be repaired.

We are not blaming juvenile delinquents in this case but highly suspect a certain miserable, retired neighbour.

She left her shenanigans until there was no snow on the ground to leave footprints, so there is no proof.

Here is our neighbour's response on Messenger.

What a shame to have to do that!

From now on I shall think of the offending neighbour as The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

While I am here, this is another neighbour looking the opposite way from my den. Actually, this is two houses, but they go together well.

What is her problem? How nasty to do that. It's not as if the lights are on all year.

I say lovely decorations.

Some people are just grinches, without even trying. Sigh.

Are you fairly certain it was the grinch lady? I have had that happen to a string of lights on two different occasions over the years.... and my culprit was a pesky, gnawing squirrel. One time I happened to see the squirrel rustling around the spot just before the lights came on in the dark..... and it was a clean “knife-edged” sort of severing. The other time happened just last week for me, and again it was only the one string and we do have ample squirrels so I am assuming he/she is again the culprit. 🐿

Squirrels, like all rodents, have continually growing front incisor teeth that requires them to constantly chew hard objects to keep their teeth small enough for keeping in their jaw.

I can probably guess the problem. Having houses that close together and lots of lights blinking and twinkling all night long wouldn't set well with me either. But unlike whomever, I wouldn't clip the lights. I would instead offer to give the owner of the lights an "extra" timer so they shut off at a reasonable hour.

Why?

I hope the squirrel proposal is the grinch after all...but the idea of a timer does sound like a good one too! Being in codo-land, I imagine there are some rules regarding when lights out must occur. But I do like seeing the colorful displays!

I don't understand people like that. They can only see the world from their own little viewpoint, and, no matter what, their opinion is the only one that matters. In a dark year, these hopeful little bright spots are treasured more than ever. Especially for a lot of children who will not get to sit on Santa's lap this year.

That is beyond Grinchy. Much as I hate inflatables and joke about shooting them with a bb gun (that I don't have), I would never vandalize anything. Perhaps it was a squirrel?

While I can relate to being a grinch, if that's the case, that's going too far.

Nice displays. Sorry about that grinch. It is illegal so she should be arrested, but there were no cameras at that time.

What a pitiful life someone must lead to resort to spoiling things for others. Yes, it's sad your neighbor has to install security cameras now, but probably wise. The lights that remain are lovely. I love Christmas lights. Sometimes my husband and I drive around just to look at the lights. We don't do much ourselves, not rising to the work of it all, but we certainly appreciate the creativity of others.

Isn't that awful. I'm glad we don't have neighbours, yet.

What a shabby trick.

Some people get totally bent out of shape by a very insignificant issue. Too bad.

That tired person is a grinch. What a horror.

Good grief! That was awfully malicious!
