Furnace and Truck

I succumbed yesterday and started up the furnace. It was after I looked at the long term forecast and saw that it was not going to get warm again. It wasn't that we needed it yesterday, but it seemed to be time to acknowledge the truth. However, we did turn it off again as the day heated up. We didn't even turn it back on overnight. The temperature dropped below freezing and wiped our our pots of petunias, but the house didn't get too cold.

Three years ago, we made it one day longer: until today, October 25. Last year, we didn't turn the heat on until November 01. Back in 2020, however, We relented on October 12th.

In terms of synchronicity, yesterday was also the day that the guy came to service the furnace. We have him come every fall for the furnace and every spring for the air conditioner.

=======================

Yesterday, as I turned the corner onto our street, I spotted a truck and admired how it fine looked against the row of colourful trees along the edge of the street. Actually it was the trees that looked fine, but I was also interested int he truck as the principal subject.

There is a Happy Truck Thursday group on Flickr. I seldom post to it, but since it was Thursday, I seized the opportunity, stopped, and took out my iPhone.

====================

Today, there shall be coffee with the boys. Bob will pick me up at 9:45 because Sue has some errands to run with our car this morning.

Now for my second cup of coffee.

We have yet to turn on the furnace, but will have to within the week as the lows are forecasted down into the twenties.

Ours is on but only runs for about an hour before it gets warm outside. Cold is relative, but I'm feeling 39 degrees qualifies.

We've been running ours in the morning to take the chill out of the air for perhaps a week now.

The 20s qualify for sure. ❄️

I am a little peeved with myself. I went by the forecast, but we haven't needed it yet. I could have waited at least another day.

Lovely trees, strange truck. Your replies, AC, are just coming through as comments - without any way to know who you are replying to. We are confused enough! So please add the name you are replying to somehow. Thanks.

I turned the furnace of a few days ago but it only runs in the morning. The truck and the trees, nice.

I wonder why we love to postpone the furnace? I do,too, some weird sense of pride about the latest I can go without. Mine's not on. Yet.

Being in Hawaii, we don't need a furnace. We do have air conditioners, however.

Our has been on here and there this month...not a furnace, but a gas stove and gas fireplace. Even with free gas, we tend to delay too.
Enjoy your coffee! Still waiting for my first cup.

Great shot of the trees and truck!

I love that truck photo! Coffee with the boys is an excellent way to spend the morning.

Coffee with the boys lasted for three hours. They are both talkers.

It was there waiting for me.

Maybe we are trying to stretch autumn as long as we can.

Maybe we fancy ourselves as soldiers doing battle. Maybe we are hanging onto summer as long as we can and staving off winter.

When I get up at 5, it's nice is it is turned on. Five is when we have the heating kicking in after we lower it for the night.

Anvilcloud said...

Ah, well there's a trick here. It involves one more step, I'm afraid.

We went below freezing last night, but the temperature in the house stayed fairly high. We were comfy under blankets anyway.

I think we like to think we are delaying winter by not turning the furnace on. Ours hadn't been on again for the last week or so but we gave in yesterday.
