Yesterday was a Day of Firsts. Of course it was the first of December, but that means that it was also the first day of meteorological winter. And . . . we also were gifted with the first snowfall of the year. Thankfully, we did not get the huge dumping that parts of Ontario received, especially the part on the leeward side of Lake Huron. They were really digging out, and last I heard, they were expecting more today.

Our almost-daily walk took us to the corner park. I dug out my compact camera, which I pretty well haven't used since last winter. Generally, I use either the big camera or the iPhone, but sometimes, and especially in winter it seems, I gravitate to the in-between choice.
I got two Sue pics: one of her taking a picture for her project and one of her sitting on the snowy bench for me. Yes, I requested that she sit on the cold bench long enough for me to get a photo. I can use it for the Bench Monday theme on Flickr.
The first photo below is of the pond where Sue was in the first photo, above. The second looks across the river from about where Sue had been sitting on the bench.
Finally, I photographed one of the of the two little footbridges along the trail. I like that it appears to be under an arbour of snow-covered trees although they were actually positioned before the bridge.
I'd say that December and winter began very nicely and on time this year. Snow certainly brightens up the landscape although one has to admit that much of November wasn't too very dull this year.
Your photos are lovely. I agree the snow certainly lightens up the landscape & puts some people in a better Christmas mood (I'll mention no names). My favourite photo of the day is the one of the foot bridge.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is the one for this shoot.
DeleteThat freshly fallen snow makes such a beautiful backdrop for your photography! I agree with the above, that footbridge is incredible.
ReplyDeleteMy second fave is Sue on the bench.
DeleteOh my! Today I can comment! Love the pics. Snow and trees go together like cheese and onions.
ReplyDeleteThat's a new expression to me. 😊
DeleteOh snow…..a four letter word that doesn’t appear in my vocabulary. Sand and Surf come to mind. And warm which is how we spent our first day of Summer on December 1st 😊
ReplyDeleteThat being said - I enjoyed your photos today. There’s something about a snow scene that is almost ‘magical’
Photo #5 with the bench would be my fav. followed by #2 with ‘the lovely lady’. You know she loves you when she’ll sit on a freezing cold metal bench for you!
#5 is a Bridge not a Bench
DeleteWe had snow again overnight. So beautiful covering the landscape as you’ve captured so well!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice touch when it is fresh.
DeleteVery pretty but much too cold for me.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit nippy.
DeleteSue on the bench is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI see why.
DeleteI like Sue on the bench, too. I like them all. We had snow early this morning, about the same amount as you. Brightens things up.
ReplyDeleteI really love snow bowered pathways. I actually like pictures of them rather than actually walking under them, but I'm a wimp.
ReplyDeleteI love that you wrote, "snow bowered pathways."
DeleteWe got the snow too, but not a big dump -- just enough to cover the ground. It's been cold enough that it is still there! I knew you'd be out shooting!
ReplyDeleteA day later, and it isn't so great already.
DeleteGreat first snow pics...keep that little camera around! I noticed you replied to many comments just below each one! Good going, you found whatever setting does that! Have a good week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI forget how I did it now. I think I previously had comments pop up in a separate window, but now I don't.
DeleteThe photograph of Sue on the bench is a classic, a real beauty.
ReplyDeleteI love those snow pictures, especially the last one. They are magical!
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good first snow -- not too much but sat nicely on the trees for awhile.
DeleteI like the pictures of Sue also. Very nice portraits in her beautiful winter surroundings. And thank you for sharing these scenes that bring back memories from childhood but that I will likely never experience again. Stay safe and thank you for this post. Aloha!
ReplyDeleteSue is a perfect winter model! Her fashion game is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteYou caught the essence of the winter snow
ReplyDeleteThe first Sue photo is just about perfect! And that one of the bridge!
ReplyDeleteIs it as cold there as it is here?
It has been a bit below freezing and there was some wind today. It wasn't balmy. 😊
DeleteYou certainly have winter snow.
ReplyDeleteThese are smashing! It's a great spot.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that it is just around the corner.
DeleteYou've got some great photos with the gray tones.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like winter.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get snow here, these pictures are so very lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I take my pocket camera out a lot during the winter months since it is a 'freeze and weather proof' camera. This just proves that you can take excellent photos with a little camera!
ReplyDeleteI can also keep the battery warm in the little camera by keeping it in my pocket.
I love the shot of the path leading to the bridge. Just wonderful.
