On a search for Christmas stocking stuffers, we walked into The Granary last week where we were greeted enthusiastically and told that there was a 20% sale of chocolate products on that day.
In passing I note that The Granary is a locally-owned health food sort of store.
We purchased several items including a Camino hot chocolate mix. I am not sure what specific variety we purchased, but this image will serve the purpose.
We are also pleased to know that Camino is a Canadian company in our region and that it is also a fair trade company. Who could ask for more?
A day or two later, I found myself in the liquor store where I purchased Baileys Irish Cream whiskey. We tend to do this come the Christmas season.
We don't drink much hot chocolate, and we don't drink much alcohol, but my oh my! has this combination of Baileys plus Camino been a most wonderful dessert drink for the past four nights!
I just might purchase another bottle to get us through the entire Christmas-New Year season.
My family likes Baileys. I don't, but buy it anyway, 'coz that's the sort of person I am! (soft in the head!)

DeleteSounds greats. Baileys alone is a real treat!
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! Not buying alcohol this year, still struggling to get my husband to quit. But Bailey's and hot chocolate sounds divine.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds wonderful. I might try it in a bar just to see if it tastes as good as it sounds.
ReplyDeleteIs there a group that polices the fairtrade practices? I ask because I know there are organic labels applied and in my state there were several scandals of companies that were found to be violating the rules since nobody was policing them.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a valid question, but I don’t know. This store ir pretty reputable, so I do assume that they have done their homework.
DeleteA very great hot drink, that warms the body and spirit! (I posted as a reply by error, and removed it.)
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmm, Bailey's! I have a recipe to make it but haven't done so for a few years, opting to take the "lazy" way and buy it. It's dangerous because it goes down too easily. (Recipe in my collection online; makes a lovely Xmas gift, but so does the store-bought elixir).
ReplyDeleteYou can make it? OMG!
DeleteHaha. Why not buy a case? It will serve for the entire year!
ReplyDeleteFound yourself in the liquor store, indeed!!
ReplyDeleteYou are all set for the holiday!
ReplyDeleteI like Baileys. I can imagine how good it is in hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteIt has been just about perfect.
DeleteMmm, I like Bailey's during the Holidays as well. Good idea to mix it with hot cocoa.
ReplyDeleteI saw some Camino products this morning at Loblaws but didn't look carefully at them. I like the idea of mixing it with Bailey's especially with dark chocolate cocoa.
ReplyDeleteWe don't drink but I would love to visit The Granary. Sounds like a cool place. Merry Christmas! xoxo
ReplyDeleteInteresting…. you had called it Bailey’s Irish Cream WHISKEY….. which is not a usual name for it here, so I had to investigate to see if it was something different from what we just call Bailey’s Irish Cream. I had not realized it had whiskey in it before this!
ReplyDeleteI have had it a number of times and it is flavorful, indeed. I can imagine it is a great addition to hot cocoa.
I have to admit (somewhat chagrined) that since I only drink on occasion, my knowledge of the various libations is rather limited. When I would have a drink or so with my father-in-law, it was whatever tickled his fancy and would usually be some form of whiskey or brandy. The infrequent times I choose to buy alcohol I usually get some sort of IPA beer (bigger flavor) or gin (because I like the flavor of juniper). Or if for a meal, some form of red wine (again, for me a pleasant flavor). Over the decades I have probably had a sample of most things at some point, but I am not sure I could tell you what a “rum” is like versus a “tequila” versus a “whisky” or a “bourbon”. They all seemed pretty much the same.
PipeTobacco
We are very similar in that case. I don't even like beer although I have it on rare occasions. Maybe Baileys isn't whiskey. I don't know.
DeleteThey all taste like battery acid to me! LOL Gin is like tree battery acid, rum is sweeter acid, vodka is straight rubbing alcohol, whisky burns and bourbon is OK but still too strong. Can you tell I don't like hard liquor?
DeleteYour adventure for Christmas stocking stuffers at The Granary sounds like a delightful outing! Discovering a 20% sale on chocolate products is always a bonus, especially when you find such treasures as Camino hot chocolate mix. Knowing that Camino is a Canadian and fair-trade company makes it even more special—it's great to support local businesses that prioritize ethical practices.
ReplyDeleteUsually I come here for the warm Canadian authenticity and thoughtful photos, but now I'm here for the survival skills training too. (insert fist bump here)
ReplyDeleteI remember being below the drinking age and introduced to White Russians. Probably the only time I ever had one(+). My first Baileys was the same pleasurable experience, except I could stand up from the sofa when done.
ReplyDeleteI'm much more interested in the chocolate than the Baileys. :) I love chocolate with coffee and that's about it for mixed drinks for me.
ReplyDeleteOh yum! I'd take a little of both!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun having treats in December!
ReplyDeleteYes. Also Khalua (sp?) with hot choc. A real life mender.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your seasonal pleasures with your favorite people, my friend! Aloha to you
ReplyDeleteThe combination of Camino hot chocolate with Baileys Irish Cream whiskey sounds absolutely divine! Even if hot chocolate and alcohol aren’t regular staples in your household, this festive concoction seems to have become a wonderful dessert drink tradition for the past few nights.
ReplyDeleteI like Baily. I bought some dark rum today, to be add to eggnog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely find! A 20% sale on chocolate products sounds like a perfect excuse to treat yourself to something special, especially during the holiday season. The Camino hot chocolate mix sounds like a delicious choice—especially from a locally-owned shop like The Granary. It’s always nice to support small businesses while indulging in some festive treats!
