Lacey seems to think it is spring or should be, or at least her fur seems to think that because it is wafting off her rather generously. I am picking up tufts here and there and even see bit of fur sitting loosely on her coat, waiting to fly up my nose.
Somehow, even though it remains extremely cold this winter, her system must be adjusting to the increasing light. Why an extra hour of minimal, low, winter light can make a difference to an indoor cat, I know not. Perhaps that isn't even the cause; maybe it is just coincidental. Maybe I am just doing that human thing of trying to make connections and seeing cause and effect where there is only randomness.
Meanwhile . . . for your amusement . . .
I've noticed Lizzie (who is a splitting image of Lacey) is starting to shed more, too. I have no idea why because we're in no heat wave!
ReplyDeleteIt's a quirk of nature.
DeleteYou just made me sneeze....
ReplyDeleteAhh, you're one of those. Actually, I also have a slight cat allergy that I live with.
DeleteLet's hope Lacey is right!
ReplyDeleteI concur, but we are not experiencing much of a shift yet.
DeleteCats always do everything on their own schedule... including shedding.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what dogs are doing?
DeleteThey are shedding too!
Deletelol. Great meme. I hope Lacey is in tune with the seasons. Enough of this bitter cold already!
ReplyDeleteIt’s not quitting, is it?
DeleteI recently saw a map which indicated that you all up north of me are actually seeing a greater time increase in daylight hours than we are...each day more time is light for you than for me. It's ok, I didn't have to deal with all that snow. You may be spot on about just the light increase rather than temperature indicating season shift.
ReplyDeleteYes, I’ve seen that too. It happens faster up north.
DeleteYes, I think it's just the light. Funny that she's shedding her warm winter coat while it's still so cold. But since she's indoors, she's fine anyway!
ReplyDeleteI am convinced that it is primarily an adaptation to light, at least for an indoor cat.
DeleteI saw that one. So true. That hour makes a difference to me. It cheers both of us to have the light last until almost supper time. So, maybe Lacey is celebrating by having a shed? Interesting speculation. I will ask the daughter who teaches this stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou must report back.
DeleteMy house is now a cat hair receptacle. I thought the German Shepherd did most of the shedding. Ha! Gatto has her beat by a mile. We are having a pretty light snow at the moment. Lacey knows how to make the best use of a sunbeam.
ReplyDeleteLacey doesn't have many talents, but I guess that is one.
DeleteYes they are little royals and we their servants! It's been down into the upper '60s here at night! That is cold to us. Bring out the blankets Aloha
ReplyDeleteBraggart 😁
DeleteMaybe the sun coming through the window is getting stronger. It feels like it is to me.
ReplyDeleteIt is rising higher.
DeleteThe spring shed is on, my house rabbit does a better job of it than our cats.
ReplyDeleteVacuuming must be fun.
Deleteahhhh...pretty soon Charlie will be dropping gobs of hair as the days get longer. For a tiny dog, he leaves a lot of fluff and hair about.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the cat knows where the best places in the house are.
He gets out a lot. I wonder if that delays it.
DeleteYes! Mari loves to lie in the sun of the window and no matter the temperature outside, she gets hot to the touch. It's probably fooling her fur like Lacey's! The one time I tried to use a lint roller on her didn't go very well.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that the fur was flying in a different way when you tried that.
DeleteAchoo! I'm allergic to cats, and Lacey's waifting fur would make me sneeze and make my eyes itchy (no offense meant, Lacey). Hard to explain the premature shedding.
ReplyDeleteI am slightly allergic, but here I am anyway.
DeleteMy dogs are doing the same. Hair everywhere. I hate it. But too cold to evict them! The cat comes in occasionally too, so even more hair. Your observation about the light and the shedding is interesting though. Bet you're right.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a chore with big dogs shedding.
DeleteThe cat is queen
ReplyDeleteThey tend to be.
DeleteYour right that animals respond to light for some things.
ReplyDeleteI have not had a cat for six months. Imagine my surprise to glance into the humidifier tank and see random cat hairs floating.
ReplyDeleteIt's true. Fur everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is warmer!
