Will We make It?

For as long as I can remember, Sue and I have resisted turning on the furnace in October. And as far as I can remember, we have never made it to the end of the month.

On Thursday, this reminder popped up in my FB timeline from October 26 last year.

You see, we didn't make it — by 5 days.

What about this year? As I write this on Friday evening to post of Saturday morning, the 28th, the furnace remains off.

But will we make it to the bitter end? I don't know.

Here is the 7 day forecast, but only the first 4 days count, and we are already on day 1 of those 4 days. Monday and Tuesday will have highs of less than 10°, and the nights will get down to near freezing.

For the one country in the world that doesn't do metric, here it is in Fahrenheit. (Alright, that's a dig. I mean you could do it, right? If ya wanted to? You just don't wanna, right?)

So, what's the thinking? Will we make our silly goal?

I am not sure why this has become a thing with Sue and me. It's not as though we really care. I mean to say, if we turn the furnace on come Monday, we'll just shrug our shoulders and carry on as always. I guess it's just a game we play. And always lose. So what about this year? Eh?

Monday and Tuesday look cold! You could pile on the sweaters and tough it out just to set the record. Not worth the discomfort in my book! Maybe it will be warmer than forecast!

Are we really the only country? Yikes. I have a conversion table pinned to my fridge. Guess I should try harder to embrace it. We play this same game but we never make it. It used to be that I would turn it on but as we've gotten older, I run hotter and BigB runs colder. Now he's the one to break. I don't tease him about it, though, which can be hard because I often hear him telling the story about how I turned the heat on in June that one year. It was a very cold June!

I've had the heating going since the middle of August I think! It has been such a dreary summer here that even though the temperatures might have been okay, the lack of actual sunshine meant that it was still chilly. And if there is one thing I refuse to do is sit in the cold. After all, the amount of rain we've had this year means the price of electricity is low!

Hope you manage until November, for no other reason than to be able to say that you beat the furnace at least once!

My friend Ann, in Wisconsin, and her husband are tougher than tough. The furnace doesn't come on until Thanksgiving, unless I come to visit.

ha!!! I do the SAME THING, but living in Orange County CA, it's much easier. You can do this! Maybe you shouldn't, though. Those night temps are COLD!!!

Our apt heat has not been turned on since management switched from cooling to heating. Since we'll be away a few days this week, we figure to make it to Nov with no turn-on. And, there's Nothing wrong with silly games, John, as we know too.
