One of Sue's recent photo prompts involved doors, and since she is always looking for something special, we thought of the reciprocal door at the Blakeney Conservation area, so we made the 16 minute drive.
I was to pose at the unique door that you shall soon see, below, but first let me tell you what the accompanying plaque says: "Relationships are built when doors are opened and people are allowed in!"
The plaque goes on to explain that the door is a metaphor for the past, present, and future relationship between Indigenous peoples and Canadians, serving as a reminder of mutual commitment in a reciprocal relationship.
While I really prefer all of the above poses, this ↓ is a better photo of me because my eyes are less in shadow from my hat.
Had we not been absolutely swarmed by ferocious biters and been able to study the images, we might have noticed the shadow issue, but we were absolutely beside ourselves to beat a hasty retreat. We still rather desperately swatted at those that followed us inside the car.
That makes two savage attacks within a week. While I am not anxious for colder weather, at the same time, I am thinking that a killing frost would be a rather good thing.
Yikes on the insects. I'm having no enjoyment outside at certain parts of the day when the bees seem to want to land on me while I'm on the porch. But they are pollenating the flowers!

I like all of the poses better than the one which is better for my face.

ReplyDeleteI actually especially like pose #1 even with the bit of shadow on your face….. it seems an especially natural pose that seems to tell the strongest “story” if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI just thought if this….. I cannot recall you ever wearing glasses for distance (not “readers”). Do you not need distance lenses at all?
I’ve worn distance glasses since ~7 (probably needed them at 4 to be honest). My eye is more of an egg shape than a sphere to have the strong myopia I have.

I have worn glasses for distance since I was 16, and was required to wear them for driving soon after. Maybe about 10 years ago, my eyes actually improved a little, so that I passed the threshold for having to wear glasses while driving. So, while I could still now benefit a little with corrective lenses, I do hate to wear them. In fact even when I had to wear them while driving, I would not wear them around. Of course, back when I was teaching I wore them on the job. I have the feeling that I may have to don them again for driving after my next exam, which will disappoint me.

ReplyDeleteWell I agree about the pesky little biters, I disagree about the photos. I'd go for #1 because it shows you opening the door, which I take it was the point of the story.
