While the world is fixated on Wordle, and that includes our little family, I also enjoy the other word game — Waffle.
To begin, the puzzle looks like ↓ this. The green letters are correct and in the right place. The orange letters are correct but in the wrong place, and the white squares are all wrong in their locations. For example: both the i and the u in the top row will be somewhere in that row. The L, however, could either be in the top row or the middle, vertical column. A player gets 15 swaps, and the game cannot be won with fewer than 10 swaps, or in other words, with more than 5 swaps remaining. (I later did this ↓ puzzle in 11 swaps or 4 remaining.)
But I am not really posting either to explain the game or the give you the result of that particular game.. Rather, I come to brag.
As I have said, the best a player can do at least on the waffle.net version of the game here, is to complete the puzzle with 5 swaps remaining. I can go fairly long intervals without achieving this best result, but I recently accomplished the feat on three consecutive days, and I just want to brag.

disregard colours in this completed version they mean nothing in particular |
I share my scores with my daughter every morning. She may have to take a hiatus as they are going to Portugal next week!
ReplyDeleteWe play Waffle, Wordle, and Canuckle.
DeleteIt's one small way to communicate daily.
DeleteTrue that! Otherwise they are so busy.
DeleteHave you got your furnace on?!
Love Wordle but it defeats me occasionally!
ReplyDeleteThere are days. I had one recently.
DeleteNever heard of it before. I'll check it outl
ReplyDeleteI came in expecting breakfast waffles. Oh.
ReplyDelete😆 🤣 Me too.
DeleteKay of Musings: My daughter and I try to do WORDLE everyday because it’s the one thing my son communicates with us from overseas. Otherwise, he’s too busy. WAFFLE sounds like fun but too hard for me. My granddaughter was trying to introduce me to CONNECTIONS and some other games yesterday, but my brain just can’t handle it.
ReplyDeleteI tried Connections but didn't like it.
DeleteWordle, Quardle, Waffle, Connections, Spelling Bee and Smartle up here. I love word games. Canuckle?? That I have to check out!
ReplyDeleteGood to see someone else Waffles.
DeleteI've played Waffle since you first mentioned it! So thank you. I do okay with it, usually winning, but often with only one swap left. Phew!
ReplyDeleteThis looks fun. I might have to check that out. I do Wordle daily and Spelling bee, Strands and Connections and have just started doing Blossom more. Waffle is new to me!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it. My siblings have put me on to Strands - also a word search of sorts but looking for words in a topic which is provided with a hint. Today's hint was "Of course". Could mean a lot and that's the puzzle.
ReplyDeleteOk did it with one swap left. I bookmarked it for now. Thanks. Now it's Wordle, Connections, Strands and now this one! Ouch - too much time on my hands.
Delete👍
DeleteWell done! It sounds a bit like a game I sometimes play, Lexica.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of it before. I do crossword puzzles, crypto puzzles, etc. I do them in Dell and Penny Press books. I save my screen time for blogging, email and searches. Thanks so much for your posts.
ReplyDeleteI held off doing Wordle for a long time, telling my sister, who suggested it, that I didn't need yet another distraction on my phone. Then she told me you can only play it once a day, so I started and did the Wordle every morning, eventually recommending it to Scott, who is a cutthroat Scrabble player and would be really good at it. We'd sit in our living room and race to the finish in the mornings! And then one day I just forgot to do it, and have never thought of it since. I find that strange, as it was a habit for a long time. I think Scott's still doing it, among other puzzles online.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Waffle but it sounds like an intriguing game. I do Wordle, Octordle, a couple crosswords, two geography games, Strands and Connections. I need to start drinking more coffee!
ReplyDeleteWordle and Connections are.my morning workout
ReplyDeleteI'll have a look at Waffle
I played Wordle for awhile but somehow forgot about it. This one is new to me.
ReplyDeleteI used to do Wordle but I haven't done it in a while
ReplyDeleteI saw your posts about the minimal swaps and was impressed without really understanding the game. I confess to being stuck on Wordle. My son in law and I compete as to number of lines taken to solve. (He beats me a lot, she growled). If I start him on this one, I will lose for sure. You have a much better mind for this kind of thing than I do.
ReplyDeletePS I also play competitive Scrabble. And lose a lot. Sometimes I wonder about my sanity level.
I don't Scrabble very well. Sue and I aren't terribly competitive about it compared to some.
DeleteAs for your other comment, Lanark Village is where we first met (you recognized me) , but I haven't been there for awhile. Do they still have good fudge? The fudge we got for the weekend wasn't as good as some.
Waffle sounds like a fun, strategic twist on word games — and 11 swaps is impressive! It’s a shame it hasn’t caught on more, but sometimes the quieter games are the real gems.
ReplyDeleteI might have to try that. I love word games. You seem to be pretty good at this one!
ReplyDeleteI play Waffle…I have a friend whose current streak is 325, whereas mine is something like 3 right now.
ReplyDeleteI also like to play Wordle, Octordle (several versions of that one…classic, sequence, rescue, chill, and extreme), Connections, and Strands. Occasionally I do the NYT Mini crossword. I used to do the Sudoku, but haven’t done that one in ages.
Glad to know there is someone else out there doing Waffle! I love when I get a 5.
