Aftermath

This our long weekend in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday on May 24 1819. In our part of Canada, at least, it is the accepted time to put in bedding plants, for we should be frost-free until the fall.

We visited nurseries over the past few days and did much garden work in addition to planting flowers. At least it was much work for us, even if it wouldn't have been for many others, probably including most of whom might be reading this poor man's blog.

After the exertion, Sue and I sat in our covered front porch and tried to recuperate. Sue opened her eyes, glanced at me, grabbed her phone, and took this shot.

  2. First selfie I've seen with eyes closed by the photographer. Kudos to Sue! (And I'm waiting to see the results of your labors!)

  3. I envy your frost-free weather! I don't dare plant anything outside yet besides sweetpeas, but am grateful the Johnny-Jump-Ups did it on their own and have already been blooming for weeks.

  4. There is a cool down coming Sunday night, so still a bit iffy up here.
Great shot, and I certainly know the feeling! It doesn't get any easier, that is for sure.

  5. Nice to see relaxing after hard work. Here in Quebec Victoria Day was changed to Patriots Day. I don't care, it is Victoria Day to me and many others as well. Enjoy your weekend, dear friend 🧡

  6. Isn't it something to still be together? I am still surprised (and grateful) about how much time my wife and I have had together in this life.

  7. Yes, and a similar shot could be taken on a lot of lounge chairs. How are your black flies? Ours are, um, rampant. The YD is not going to walk her dog, she says. I am dreaming of garden centres, but may just wait for a colder day to venture into the war zone.
If we get some sun, you could give us a photo of the plants. A 'before' shot, as in before they grow.

  8. Looks restful! You must have just gotten a haircut…. Your hair and beard look extra short in the photo.

  9. There's something so comforting in this simple moment—after hard work, just resting together and letting the day settle. That photo, taken quietly by Sue, captures the warmth of shared peace. I just shared a new travel post. I am excited for you to read it. Thank you. Happy weekend.

  10. I have to start cleaning up my big containers to get ready for planting them but have to admit I'm feeling very lazy. ;-)

  11. Our standard for spring planting has always been after Memorial Day, the end of May. You and Sue look content.

  13. I was exhausted after putting in my plants although I don't think I napped. But I did sleep well that night!
