MEH

I haven't posted for two days and for three out of the last four. I am just having a bit of a MEH time of it.

Photographically, I came across a little clump of grape hyacinths. I would have been willing to hit the ground for a macro, but the day was windy, and the next and the next. When it wasn't windy (well it always was) it was raining. MEH.

I did something to my left wrist and something also to my right knee. The pains came after just a little bit of light garden work, so brief and light that I don't know if that was the cause or not. Unfortunately, they both feel like pains that I will carry for the duration, until the end of my MEH time.

It hasn't helped that I've been going through one of my rough patches of sleep. I mean it's never very good, but sometimes it's less gooder than other times. Sleepwatch accused me of getting only 3.5 hours the other night, but I do think it missed an hour, but 4.5 hours still classifies as MEH in my MEH opinion.

Although I often don't always love the thought of going on our daily walks, the weather has resulted in them being very hit and miss. I think the lack of exercise increases my MEH level. It's odd how in some ways, Sue and I are more consistent about walking in winter. We know it will be cold in winter, but we don our warm coats and out we go. Rain and/or gale-force winds in this season, keeps us in our MEH home more now than in winter.

Even a trip to the garden centre didn't inspire me when I accompanied Sue on her daily prompt. However, I did click a bit, rather unenthusiastically I hasten to add. I was thinking that I might be able to blend multiple exposures into one interesting image. I went through the process and hated the very MEH results so much that I won't even show them to dear readers today, and you know that I have shown you some pretty MEH stuff on this MEH blog.

Just because I was there, I will post this quick grab of a calla lily. I didn't check the label, but I think that's what it is. It's orange, and it's okay, but only just okay, barely raising above MEH level.

But . . .

We did get out for our annual pre-mother's-day Mother's Day breakfast. That did unMEHticize my spirits a little. For once, I chose something other than my big scramble of ingredients. I ordered the Billy Goat: a poached egg with hollandaise along with fried tomato, crispy bacon, goat cheese, and green onions.  I'll have you know that I was a relatively good boy, and only ordered the one-egg version. It was good enough that I would consider ordering this dish again if I decided to forego my more habitual Chef's Bowl. It will be a tossup.

Having my lovely wife beaming back at me, as she always always does, was and is a very good thing. I don't even have to take her out for breakfast to get multiple daily smiles. They are definitely NOT MEH.

So, perhaps, my MEH interlude is coming to a close despite getting soaked in a downpour upon exiting the restaurant, which when thinking of my soaked clothes, causes me to remember that I wore short-sleeves for the first time since probably October, so that it also a non-MEH plus. Quite by chance, the shirt happened to be a nice non-MEH Canadian red and white. It's not meant to be a pro-Canada shirt, it just happens to be those colours, and in these political days, it seems like a particularly good time to wear them.

  1. The weather sure has been a bit 'up and down' lately. Chilly this AM for sure. That is one gorgeous lily, and smiling Sue, is always a pleasure.

  7. Lovely photographs as always, even if your 'meh' mood didn't allow you to appreciate them at the time. The mood will pass and I hope your knee and wrist are recovering. Being afflicted on both sides of your body is bad planning! 😎

  8. Lack of adequate sleep puts me in the MEH-to-this-life condition like nothing else does. The lily is a beaut, and I love your appreciation for Sue. You are an excellent husband.

  14. I don't think that calla lily is meh at all! I adore that color. Breakfast out with your lovely wife=wonderful. I would order the scramble, not sure about the sauce. Is that the lemony one? Hope you can get more sleep and shake the aches and pains.

  15. I love the beautiful calla lily shot. I hope your sleep settles - this winter I started waking up at 2 or 3 am. Ugh. Sometimes I can just roll over and sometimes I give up an get up for awhile. Hope our disturbed routines are temporary.

  17. I thought of you the other day. I woke at 5:30 and got back to sleep. I was amazed. Slept until 7.
We are allowed to have MEH days! It's been MEH weather, for sure. Just when I have an outdoor project...

  18. I often feel the MEH moment too, so I completely get how frustrating it is when the weather, aches, and poor sleep sap your energy and even photography doesn’t quite lift the mood, though the fact that you still picked up the camera says a lot about your quiet resilience.

  19. Just a mention of this (I think I did before, but cannot recall)….. I wonder if your sleep challenges are in part due to circadian rhythm challenges. If they are, you might find great benefit to purchasing/using a “SAD” light. SAD stands for seasonal affective disorder and that is how you can easily find them on Amazon. But that does not mean you HAVE SAD. That is just the current term they are usually categorized by. But a SAD light can also be used to reset a circadian rhythm. Sometimes as we age, our pineal gland does not do as proficient a job of secreting the circadian rhythm hormones. The pineal gland is stimulated by light signals from the eye. And, for instance, if you may have even a bit of cataracts (most of us do after 60 years of age), the cataract formation diminishes the light perceived by the pineal gland. The SAD light can help stimulate the pineal more efficiently and if you were to use it, it is possible it may entrain your circadian rhythms into a pattern that would allow better sleep.

    Just a thought to consider.

  20. Your wife is beautiful.
I hope this case of the MEH's come and go fast. I love the cooler windy, even cloudy days. Those are my great days. The Summer with the hot temps and sunny, sunny days are the days I don't feel like going outside at all.

  24. You are not alone in having such days, and despite the feelings, the calla lilies and your lady are beautiful.

  25. Lack of sleep makes many things just look gray. Here's to better days, AC!

  26. I'm really sorry you can't sleep...sounds like you could be low on Magnesium. You might try Magnesium Glycinate. Lots of people are low on it and being low can cause so many problems. Check it out...as with supplements, it might take a few days to see any results...but keep taking it...and don't go over the recommended dosage of, I believe, 400mg.
    Love the photos!
    hugs

  27. Sometimes, the combination of bad weather, little injuries, and disrupted sleep can really drag you down. It's good that you were still able to get out and capture something, even if it didn't turn out as expected. Keep going at your own pace—those "MEH" days don't last forever, and even small efforts like those daily walks or a quick photo here and there can help turn things around.
