Spring at the Sugar Shack

As most of you know by now, we head to the sugar shack twice in most years: once in spring and once in autumn. We don't usually make our spring trip this early, for it isn't really spring yet, but the sap is beginning to flow. More importantly, Sue desired a trip there to do something or other with her photo project.


So off we went on a 45-minute drive to Wheelers near McDonalds Corners in the hinterland of Lanark County. It so happened that Tuesday was the first day of their spring session, and there were lots of visitors, and more than it shows in this photo, for most of those tables filled up quickly.


As we sipped our coffee, Sue took our predictable selfie, featuring the jar of maple syrup that was waiting for breakfast to be delivered.


We both ordered The Canadian entrĂ©e, which consists of . . .  well never mind . . . you can see for yourself.


It was time to pour the golden nectar.


We were then ready to put away the phone and to start devouring the yummy comestibles. 


Now doesn't that look good?

Yes, that did look good, AC, especially as we have not had breakfast yet. There is nothing like real maple syrup enjoyed with pancakes.

My wish also for that breakfast served, with real Canadian maple syrup...alas, I will have something or another that does what it needs to to fill me up and get me going.

Real maple syrup is so much better than the shop kind. Nice spring outing.

Oh, that looks delish -- and I haven't had breakfast yet! Now I'm wishing I had something more substantial than a yogurt!

You know your trip to Wheelers came to mind on Wednesday when we drove to Keene NH and passed a restaurant called The Sugar House. I think when we head to Keene again to pick up our new car we will have to check out that restaurant and see how it compares to yours.

That looks delicious! Older Daughter and I were planning to visit a sugar shack when we went up to Montreal but never made it. If I'd known they had food like that I would have insisted!

It is so good that you live your life by exploring things around you. Spring is symbolic of rejunvenation. The breakie looks just so yummy!

the syrup looks the best. By the time maple syrup gets out here it's very pricey.
