That Was the First Day of Spring

As you all know, and as many of you have been posting, the sun reached the equator on its way north yesterday. Although we haven't enjoyed any of those wonderful, almost preternatural, warm early days yet, the temperatures have been rising somewhat. And . . . the light is brighter and lasts longer.

As a result, our snow pile out front s beginning to decrease. Earlier last week, we could only see the top of the 6 on our snow removal sign. Look at it now; despite the lack of noticeably warm days, we can see the full 613 area code.

That ↑ marker is on the north side of the snow bank, but look at the difference on the opposite side of our shared driveway – the side that faces south. Southern exposure makes a difference.

We went for a pleasant stroll downtown. From the parking lot, I took a photo of the Moore House with a little bit of townhall behind.

The Moore House is an original log house that was once the home of one of the leading, early families. It was located elsewhere in town but moved to this spot more than a decade ago. It is now the office and salesroom of the Chamber of Commerce.

The first, official day of spring, was a good day, but I now hope that we also get one of those preternatural, very early warm days. It doesn’t occur every year of course, but I live with hope in my heart.

  2. South facing makes all the difference! Lots of character in that old house for sure.

  5. I had a very difficult day yesterday with a new client. I am glad today is a new day.
My penultimate client is doing MAiD today. It is disconcerting, to say the least.
Spring is going to be very welcome here.

  7. OK, you've already laid out the shorts and sandals...maybe some sun block because of course you want to soak up that Vit. D that sunshine provides. Which reminds me, I'm determined to get outside a bit today...maybe only 56 a high, but last night was a very nice 26F.

  8. The only trouble with the super warmth is that if it lasts, sugaring is over. I recall one year when the temperature went up into the 20s for three days starting April 4th, and we were done. Early end to the season. Even though we no longer make syrup, the first thing we do every morning is assess the day's sugaring potential. Old dogs, no new tricks.
Sun today, but the sky is a bit hazy at present. Sap will run, but not well as it is only forecast to go to 2 degrees C.
    Yes.
And, as a marker, our bird bath has appeared out of the snow bank.

  9. Our house is northern facing and even though we've had days in the 40s and low 50s (4 - 11 C), there are still a couple of small piles of snow in front that will probably be with us until May. Ha! It's cozy in the winter because the front room is always dark, but I do like that the back of our house is warmer with all the sunlight it gets!
