Nighttime Snow Blowing

I go to bed ~10:30 and am usually asleep by 11. These days (notwithstanding that 8-hour night which I recently bragged about) I am usually up by 4-4:30. This doesn't please me greatly, but I learn to accept the reality of the situation.

There is a lot to do in the hours before Sue awakes: news to read; pictures to Flickr; blogs to write; blogs to read; and, friend's photos to peruse. There is also Wordle and more often than not, multiple games of Sudoku.

On a recent morning, when I looked out the window ~4:35, I was treated seeing to our snow removal guy out there doing his job. He had finished our driveway by then, but he was still active on the block and at the neighbours'.

I grabbed the phone and fired a few shots. At least two are a bit blurry, but I was quite chuffed to get anything on such short notice. I have taken daytime photos of these guys in the past, but nighttime photography is special.

Sometimes when they post the snow removal signs in the banks here, I'll wake up as they pass by in the night.

Your neighborhood does look so cozy in that Christmas card snow. I am envious that he does your driveway as well. I am up by 6:00 and that gives me eight hours. Started taking melatonin before bedtime and that has helped. There are some contraindications though.

I feel for the poor guy out there at dark o'clock in the cold. I wouldn't mind having a turn on that machine though, great toy. Nice pix, atmospheric.

I got a kick out of the first one...the blurry look from my eyes at that time of day is well captured!

I am not at my best at that time of day (or night). Those guys have a lot of work to do here today.

I always enjoy seeing a professional, whatever the task, doing that job well and with dedication. Your snowplow person is a very real example of this welcome human characteristic.

Lovely shots of professionals at work.

I wouldn't like that job or that shift but I love the shots!

Have a gravel driveway we can't use a snowblower. It would throw rocks at out neighbor's sunroom and at our windows. We have a guy who's a master at using a plow forward and backward. He was by at 10 this morning to deal with the 8+ inches we got over night. He may be back if the snow continues.

Quite a good group of captures considering the time of day and your vantage point. I too would have wanted to be indoors looking out as I'm doing today during a snow event here, but no where as severe as your storms.

I would think that it might be a bit disconcerting to hear that snowblower at that hour! But maybe everyone loves what's being done so they don't mind it.

Nice photos of a tough job.

Bless those guys! Your 4:30 is a bit too much like middle of the night to me, although since we have the new dog he gets us up at 6!
No snow here, but incredible winds last night.

You live in such a pretty neighborhood. I don't recall our city snowplow going by at that hour though.

So much snow! All of ours has melted, so I'm going to live vicariously through your winter.
