More Post Surgery Foofaraw

I was motoring along after my surgery when I encountered another cause for concern.

Honestly, this surgery was minor but with the catheter saga followed by the later passing of clots and blood, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it had been an extensive, 8-hour, triple bypass plus brain surgery. In reality, I was waking up in about 40 minutes.

I was getting on really well and was experiencing a rate and volume, the like of which I hadn’t seen in decades. Example: for years, after lunchtime tea with Sue, I would often go frequently for several hours. For sure, I’d never make it through  our tv hour without having to take a little trip to the washroom, sometimes twice and sometimes even thrice. Later after going upstairs for the afternoon, I would more often than not, go a few more times before it settled down a little. Now, after tea, I can at least sometimes hang in there for a full hour and a half tv program. It’s the little things, eh?

I was feeling good and decided to do my own grocery shopping in person for the first time in a month. I don’t mind grocery shopping, and I prefer to roam the store and pick out my own stuff rather than fill in an order online.

So, that was good too.

However, that evening, it happened again. I began urinating clots and blood. Again! Argh!

How could this happen after two weeks of all being clear on the southern front?

I kept it quiet from dear wife, hoping it would right itself as it did before, but when the problem was still persisting after lunch, I told Sue what was happening.

I don’t keep things from my lady, but she worries. I hoped it would settle down and thought to spare her for the time being. We were in the midst of yet another storm, and not wanting to have to drive a distance to see my urologist, I had decided to wait it out.

That afternoon, however, after seeing a red tinge yet again, I felt forced to call the urologist. This was on Tuesday and he is on a little break until next week. I decided to call my family doctor, not so much for an appointment, but just to keep her informed.

I was advised to come in and see her almost right away.

This doctor is amazing. I can often be seen on the very day that I call or at least soon after. I was there within a half hour.

My appointment with her was for 3, but she is almost always early. She heard me, wrote requisitions, and sent me to the lab. The lab was empty. I was home by 3:30. That's a pretty efficient half hour.

As a bonus I was soon running clear again. I guess I shouldn’t have bothered anyone, but at the time, I thought that someone should know.

I hope that is the end of all this foofaraw over this relatively minor procedure. It’s been crazy.

Glad to hear things have righted themselves again. I think it's a good idea to always let someone know about bleeding, especially from there & after surgery. Of course there's always that thought, oh it's nothing, oh please let it be nothing.

It's not really a minor surgery. It's delicate and can be a complicated recovery. Let's hope you're recovered now.

Well, there went another afternoon, spent getting the plumbing fixed up. Yes grocery shopping on one's own. I often go down the aisle while a "shopper" is dilligently searching for the next thing on their list...they are a hoot, actually making little scrunchy sounds like I do when uploading a big file or waiting for something to open...I know my sons and friends frequently do this.

That's got to be worrying. So glad you're back in the clear.

Foofaraw! I think it was a bit more than that. No reason to mess with infections.

Wow, I am shocked. Glad it's running clear now. I had a boyfriend, who ran marathons and also ran for 3 hours at a time around the neighborhood every other day. He would often have bloody urine. He was a doctor specializing in internal medicine. He just let it pass and did nothing for it. I guess the body was just telling him to stop running so much.

Perhaps you were being more active and it jarred something loose? I'm glad you went to see the doctor and think you should also visit the urologist in the near future.

Oof. I'm glad things are all well now, but it was probably for the best that you did talk to someone about it. It's so scary because who knows what's going on?!

Good to have it checked out. Hope it's the last of the problem.

There is always something to worry about. I'm glad it seems to be sorted out again.

Sounds like whatever it was it has resolved itself without any more doctoring! Hope that's true and it stays clear. :-)

With this stuff it's best to be overly cautious.

But don't keep shtum when you're a little worried, yourself. Always let Sue know, even if she worries. She'd rather worry than get a nasty surprise when things happen to get worse (heaven forbid).

As long as things are checked out fine, it is all good news.

Good for you for getting it checked out.
I often hold back with issues, as someone in my house frets!

No. You SHOULD have bothered someone and I'm glad you did. If it's nothing -- great. If it's something you want to be on it. And your doc sounds terrific!

Even though it resolved itself, I'm glad you got it checked out. You don't want to take a chance. You're lucky to have quick medical care. Not so fast with our military medical care over here.
